6m is where I got him. He won't get milsap money because paul is 24 or so and was 20-10 when boozer was out. He won't get odom money cause odom is a matchup nightmare. He's in the haslem range which isn't a bad place to be.
We just need to let Scoly know that we love him, and that every dollar he does not recieve is going towards acquiring another piece to make us champions. I think Scola wants to win more than anything, so he might take 5-6 million if it helps us get better in the offseason...
The one thing we should know about morey is he doesn't set the market. Scola, like landry has almost 0 leverage. So,he's restricted and morey will sit and wait till someone offers scola a deal. Personally, I don't think he will even make scola a offer. He will just wait him out and see.
The one thing I think Scola has in his favor is that unlike a lot of pf's out there at his age, I don't think he's gonna drop off as quick because he's not an athletic guy anyway. Therefore his value should stay up a little longer.
If the rockets go after Bosh next summer, they won't even give Scola an offer. btw, I remember someone mentioned Morey said the rockets might go after Bosh.
bosh is a webber-lite (great perimeter game for a big man, good post game also, can pass, handle the ball, rebound, decent defense) and thus fits adelman's offense perfectly. regardless of what people say, he's an all-star and would thrive with adelman and the types of role players that we have. i do hope morey goes after him b/c we need to start anew. but we'll see whether morey can acquire that "star."
Yes, I was thinking about this, too. Morey does have a "let him sweat or let him leave" way of negotiating. As others have posted here, Bosh is a natural target for the Adelman offense, and getting him would preclude an offer to Scola. Scola would actually make a lot of sense in Toronto with that ultra-Euro team, but trading for Bosh, as Morey has intimated (trading for an All Star if possible rather than holding out til summer 2010), well, I'll just let it happen rather than hope.
Roxtxia, that's why in another thread I mentioned this. The only way it would happen is if Bosh said he wanted to come to houston. I think scola will play anywhere, that's just the kind of dude he is. Scola resigns for 6.5m,Battier makes 7.6m, Hayes is another 2m, and a 1st rd pick and sign and trade Bosh starting at max money. Then the rockets would resign Mcgrady for less, extend brooks, trade lowry. They would still have the mle and lle availible for players. My biggest fear is down I-10 in the spurs. They could essentially do the same thing except with manu and mason jr. Could you picture Bosh with Duncan, parker, and jefferson?
The problem with this scenario is that Bosh likely isn't going to wait around all summer while Scola's agent and the Rockets work out the details of a new contract. The odds of Morey (or Colangelo, as the case may be) and Scola's agent coming to an agreement on this new contract by July 8 is highly unlikely, and it is still unlikely that a contract would be finalized by August. Bosh isn't going to wait around while other teams use their cap room, only to have something go wrong with the S&T by late August.
completely agreed. Unfortunately we won't have enough cap space to go after him. It would have to be a mid-season trade. I have my fingers crossed that the Raptors have another horrible season and are willing to part with Bosh, he's leaving in free agency anyway.
Scola deserves at least $8 million a year. I don't know if he'll get it, and whatever he gets, I sure hope it is from us, but in my opinion, Luis has earned it.
Bima, I think bosh is going to pick where he wants to go. I think it will be miami with wade or 1 of the texas teams. Hell, it be to a up and comer like portland with all the talent they can offer. I don't think its going to be the highest bidder vs a winner or winning organization.
That's great and all, but what if Bosh picks Houston based on the notion that it will be via S&T (where he'd make several, several millions more), only to later find out that a Scola deal could not be worked out, the deal fell apart, and he either has to re-sign in Toronto, take drastically less in Houston (assuming the Rockets could clear enough room by renouncing Scola and Lowry - remember, they will have already had to decide on whether to exercise their team options on Landry and Hayes by this point), or scrounge around for lose change elsewhere among teams that hadn't already blown their wad in free agency?
I agee Bima, I think its going to be one of those things where morey needs to be aggressive. We are speculating and I've presented a scenerio. As productive as he is, I don't think anyone will offer scola morre than 6m. I think he's going to be a consolidation prize. Boozer and those others will get paid more and will be a higher priority. I'm not sure that you can sign and trade scola in a package with shane, hayes, and a pick would put the rox within the 25% of a max for bosh. Does it add up or would scola be byc?
I think it could get ugly and they will settle on a one year tender that gives Luis complete free agency at the end. DD
I was thinking the same thing, the Rox are not exactly a winner organization, and we don´t have the stars to deserve the loyalty we expect from Scola. If we lowball him, he can resign for one more year at 125% of his salary, and go to another club.
