This is not to bash Scola. All I'm saying is with his performance tonight against Blazers has all but ended his shot to beat out Durant or Horford. Let's face it most voters don't watch a whole lot of games. The ones they do watch or the nationally televised and putting up at the moment a 0 pt 3 rebs performance will likely be the last memory they have of his rookie campaign and it will cause them to go with Horford or Durant in this close race. Stinks but doesn't matter to me. He doesn't need the award to be a great player. As long as he continues to average 14-7 like he has recently I'll be okay.
As much as he deserves it and as much as we like to think otherwise, Scola really didn't have a chance at the ROY award. The NBA gives ROY to the player with the most superstar potential. (In this year's case, Durant.)
He was never going to get it... Durant and Thornton are more deserving of it anyway. Thornton is playing out of his mind right now too. Averages 27.2 ppg when he gets 40+ minutes.
Well he lost it since Durant came out with that commercial where he dispenses the history of his jerseys with much seriousness.
Scola is a smart man. He kept on fouling so he could sat down on bench to avoid the embrassment of guarding Aldridge.
He is more of a role player anyways, the other rookies in the race are more classified as all out scorers, Durant and Horford...can really be seen as BIG time players in 5 years...Scola...ehh I love Scola...but how good would he be on a sub 500 team?? think bout it...
the always comforting thought is what we gave up to get him. a guy that would have come 101th place out of 100 rookies last year
On a positive note, he'll still be okay not getting something pre-ordained to go to Durant all along.
well considering they would probably give him more touches down low and more freedom to shot, i think he'd be a little better. he has already proven that he doesnt need to play off of yao to be effective. the difficult part as a rookie is to be effective in an established system on a 50 win team.
horford is overrated. People always talk about how much he is contributing to a playoff team but they are still 5 games below .500, not impressive
Agree about Thornton. It was some national TV game early in the season, can't remember vs who, but the kid caught my eye. At first I was wondering who the hell he was because he sure didn't play like a rookie. Looked very comfortable on the perimeter with the ball, I thought he was 6'4 by watching him play, watching his skills. Then I find out he's 6' 8 wtf! Damn sure didn't play like a typical 6' 8 stiff. Tried to keep up with his highlights as much as possible. Kid looks like he has "it".
Al Horford >>> Thornton. Thornton may be able to score, but hes already old (24? for a rookie) and is allergic to passing. I'd much rather have a guy that will get you 14 and 11 day in and day out.
Scola misses way to many lay-ups and easy baskets every game. I thought this was suppose to be his forte. When you really look at it, confidence is what he's lacking.
You mean the shot to beat them that he didn't have? The other 74 games had a little something to do with it too. Well, yeah...
