wont he/isnt he working with the argentinian coaches already though? not sure how much time rockets coaches can get with him this summer.
A guy who took a major paycut to play in the NBA will not stop working on his game, that is for sure. On a related note, Tiago Splitter just ditched the Spurs to extend his contract with his spanish team for two more years.
Most of the above... 1. Must add dunking 2. Develop a reliable (and confident) mid-range jump shot -- and then develop the habit of taking it when you have the open shot. 3. Improve free-throw percentage (related to number 2.) 4. Don't flop ... Now. Start a similar thread for each of the Rockets players, tally the lists and send them to Morey, just in case he's missed something in each player's "Off-season Development Plan".
The major problem with Scola is that he tends to play too frantically and rushes things, especially seen in the playoffs. If he just learns to be a little more patient and wait for the game to come to him, his mid-range shooting, his rebounding, etc. (maybe his dunking) will all fall into place. And this just comes with more NBA experience. I really think its that simple.
His improvement will be minimal.A drop step jump hook would be nice. Ft shooting would be also. The mid range shot helps, but he's not getting longer or more explosive no time soon. Anything will help though.
Well, if u watched Bynum from last yr to this yr, u can see he became more explosive. U can go check and see where young guys that have gotten their core stronger have become more explosive. Its also a chance when u get a guy at 19 to grow a little. What ive been consistent with is that he has physical limitations that will limit his growth. Not to mention he's 28. The physical growth of a 28 yr old is a lot less than of a 22 yr old. The physical limitations is what limit the rest of your game.
its not like he can't dunk people. he 6ft10inches for pete's sake. he just needs to be more assertive and i can guarantee he will dunk sometimes.
For those who keep saying: Dunk More!!! Has the fact that Scola has played 11 seasons of professional basketball without a major injury has SOMETHING to do with the fact that he doesn´t unnecessary dunk? I am sorry but as a coach i won´t introduce dunking into a 28 year old player that has a questionable vertical leap and is no particularly strong on his legs.
I think this is probably what will happen. A bit of improvement in all areas will happen naturally since he is a hard worker.
i think scola's biggest (or should i say the most obvious) weakness is that he ALWAYS shoots right. pretty much like odom and manu always going left.
1. Midrange jumper. This will be his bread and butter when Yao is around. If he can master the midrange jumper, he'll become our 3rd scorer. 2. Passing out of the post. Once he commits to his spin moves into the post he rarely passes out. He needs to dish it to Yao (who should be close to the basket for an easy dunk) or a shooter if he gets into trouble in the post. 3. Finishing with the left hand. Pretty unlikely as he is already 28 but if he can even do one or two moves with his left hand he will become a pretty complete PF for the Rockets.
The "Needs to Dunk" is from the familiar line said about Yao. Understandable with Yao, but its not the same approach with Scola. Its like saying Juwan Howard needs to dunk more. I mean yeah he "could" but will he or is he even able to? I dont think Scola is one to try steroids, therefore he is staying his earthbound self. But like Yao he can take a more direct to the basket and contact approach. Flopping doesnt make him or anyone a worse player, just a more annoying one. Rules are being discussed by the NBA to address flopping already, so he'll just have another adjustment to make.
