I know that a lot of complaining has been done over the Rockets one lowly appearance on national tv, so I took the opportunity to look at some of the other teams. I didn't look at the Lakers, Pacers, Knicks, etc. We all know they will get a bunch because of their records, etc. But here are the rest: The "Record Sucked So Here's What You Get" Group: Rockets: 1 Cavaliers: 1 Hawks: 1 Mavericks: 2 Bucks: 2 Pistons: 1 The "Ouch, What Happened?" Group Hornets: 1 The "Damn, That is Painful" Group Nuggets: None Warriors: None The "Who Was the Genius That Decided This?" Group Celtics: 3 (including 2 on NBC!!) Nets: 4 Bulls: 5 (including 4 on NBC!!!) Am I missing something? Isn't MJ gone? Don't they suck? I did not count the Grizzlies because they get Canadian broadcasting which doesn't really count. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
On the Bulls, Nets, and Celtics, who are their opponents? I imagine they aren't the headliners. I just looked, Chicago plays against Air Canada twice on national TV and once against Indiana, the eastern conference champion. Nets play Miami, SA, Toronto. They also have the #1 draft choice. Maybe Rod Thorn has some pull? Boston has no excuse for being aired on national TV. I guess they're counting on the tragic car accident affect. People will slow down to see something awful. ------------------ "There's 1,000 different things we're looking at, but there's not a lot of things there." -- Rudy T., apparently after taking a hit of acid.
How can Chicago be on TV 4 times and the Rockets only 1? I guess when you are in Houston you get very little respect
Obviously NBC thought Chicago would make out like a bandit on the free agent market, which they obviously didn't and they(NBC) obviously never expected Houston to aquire anyone and were wrong once again. Their loss. ------------------ Too often, we lose sight of life's simple pleasures. *sigh* it's so hard for me to schedule my curiosity. usually it just happens spontaneously. ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
I could really careless about national tv, what's sad is that I won't even be able to watch Rocket road games because ch. 55 is carrying the games and you can't pick that piece of $hit station up anywhere unless you have cable and I have Directv. That's the downside to satelite. Ch. 51 would've atleast been watchable, all I get on 55 is static. ------------------
SRS, with DirecTv you can get NBA league pass and see every Rocket game. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
SRS, I use to use an amplified antenae from radio shack. They are just a little larger than standard rabbit ears, but much better reception. Raido shack use to let you try the antenae and refunbd it if it didn't work for you. League pass may be a better deal since the antenae cost 30+ and is of limited use. ------------------ "You've got 6 fouls, use them well" -Derrick Coleman
SRS, Joe Joe is correct. You can get a more powerful antennae that can go in your attic or on top of your house. Ours works pretty damn well and we have Dish Network. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
I hate to state the obvious but: Bulls: Big TV Market (3rd overall) and name recognition from dynasty years Nets: The Biggest TV Market of all (New York) and Celtics: Big New England regional market(6th overall) with historical name recognition In short, it's not about the best game, but the best ratings. And before you bring out the fourth largest city stuff, Houston is actualy the 11th largest market(between Atlanta and Seattle). What it is NOT about is respect. TV programers, like Las Vegas oddsmakers are agnostics. They care not for who will win, but rather what will garner the most action. If the Rockets either: Had the name recognition to draw a large national audience. Were in a top 5 market. Won 55 games last year. or Had a proven star in the prime of his career. You might see them on TV more. But as they don't/aren't/didn't you won't. It bothers me that Rockets fans always see a conspiracy behind every corner. It's demeaning. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Ottomaton (edited September 22, 2000).]
If the Rockets surprise, the networks will find a way to put them on as they did w/the Raptors last year. SoonRockstro: Don't say that! National TV is the only way I get to watch except during holidays . Otherwise, I just get to see these "painful" Celtics . (@#()$*& Antoine Walker) ------------------ Shandon Anderson rocks. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
and the "#1 Post of the Thread" Award goes to...Ottomaton it's all about ratings, baby. and if it weren't for francis, we'd have exactly zero appearances. now if he can keep turning in highlight reel dunks and blows up like nell carter, we might get some more exposure. even in the championship years, we didn't get that much exposure. why? was it a lack of respect? or was it style that was less fun & exciting than watching paint dry?
HEY, there was nothing wrong with the Rockets style of play. I loved watching Hakeem get the ball, make a Shake or two and hit the baseline jumper. I loved watching Horry drive the lane and finish with one of his flying dunks. I loved watching Maxwell make the over the back falling out of bounds desperation 3 pointer. I loved watching Hakeem pass the ball our to Elie, Cassell, Drexler, Smith and Maxwell to hit the 3 pointer. I wouldn't trade those days for anything! ------------------ Too often, we lose sight of life's simple pleasures. BobFinn* -- if SRS lives in Houston, league pass won't help him. Your "home team" is blacked out. Thank God my home team is the Spurs!
I would have loved to watch Horry do that to . . . except that it never happened In fact, Horry used to pi$$ me off, because he was 6'10" and had a good vertical, but didn't realize that SFs were allowed inside the 3 point line. When he switched to PF during the playoffs, most of his dunks came from good passing by his teammates. Horry never had, and still doesn't have, good enough ball control to even think about including driving in his offensive repertoire (a word I use incorrectly here, because it suggest Horry has multiple offensive skills ). I must admit though, that the pre-Barkley offense was fun to watch, because of Hakeem's amazing dominance and the amazing chemistry he had with all of his teammates. ------------------
Steve: The Rockets appear once on TBS. That's it for national television appearances. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
