I think it's important for the league that it NEVER have anything to do with CBS EVER AGAIN! Nobody did more to destroy the NBA in the late 1970s and early 1980s than the Clueless Broadcasting System. This is the network that showed the NBA Finals on #@^^$&(# TAPE DELAY! For those too young to remember, when Larry Bird and Magic Johnson won their first NBA titles nobody saw it because CBS didn't think the games were worthy of being shown in prime time. They were taped and shown at 11:30 p.m. (Eastern Time), after the nightly news. I'm hoping for the best from ABC and ESPN, but nothing could be worse than the days of "NBA on CBS." Oh, and put me down for Lakers at Rockets for opening night.
Hoping it's something like Nugz at Rockets, someting like that.. the LAST thinig we should want to see is the Lakers come in here for the very first game of the season.. unless Rudy does not let Ming off the bench.. because you know that Shaq would make it a point to try to knock Ming flat as often as possible. And let's not kid ourselves - as good as we all think Ming will be, putting him on national TV against the Lakers his first time out would be a very bad idea. In fact, I am hoping that Ming and Shaq will not have opportunity to hook up until several weeks into the season.. And since I think the NBA very much wants to see Ming be a success, don't count on seeing the Lakers and Rockets butting heads early in the season.. probably something more like Denver, Dallas, or now Golden State (since Wang is there now right?) some team that has, pardon the expression, a bit of a 'Chinese Connection' .. hoping for Denver.. But, we'll know in a couple days regardless
dont they usualy start against an eastern conference team. like last year home against atlanta. my pick for season opener is @atlanta. but the first game on tv might be against the lakers.
One night of Inside the NBA a week is not enough. That show is just great. What's the status of the Time-Warner NBA only network?
I'm thinking it's definitely gonna be a home game, against an opponent with either a stud PG, or a good big man. My shot in the dark will be Seattle @ Houston. You get your Payton vs. Francis, and the Rashard Lewis homecoming (hehe, maybe playing FOR the home team), and a chance to see Yao vs. the average NBA big man (Calvin Booth, Vin Baker), Jerome James).
Who care's who we play opening night, the big question is who do we play when Smeg comes to town???!!!!!!
I know this was a matchup thread, but what is the status on local coverage? Someone said there will be none. That can't be right, can it? FSN won't be carrying the games? Someone fill me in? And it has to be the Lakers. Way too much hype not to do it. It just works out too perfectly. Although, I agree that it's probably not the matchup us Rockets fans should hope for.
I don't care who they play as long as it's anyone but the Lakers. That'd be so unfair to throw Ming into the fire like that on Game one. Can't they wait a few weeks, it'd be ridiculous. I'm thinking LA vs Sac-town (If they were smart) but probably not. Houston vs. Dallas would make the most sense. Yao vs. Wang....Htown vs Dallas, we just match up great with them.
It's got to be Rockets @ Mavs for the most international game ever. Ming, Nachbar, Torres, Zhi Zhi, Najera, Nowitzki, Nash, Bradley. Is that the most? or do the Kings have more?
There is no way the Lakers will play away their first game. They give out the rings and hang the banner on opening night.
FSN carries the home games usually. Ch 51 has the Comets games now so maybe they are the front runners for the Rockets away games. os
