I'm confused. Can someone answer this question? Isn't it against league rules not to have a #1 pick in two consective drafts? Since we don't have a #1 next year, how can we trade both #1s this year?

The rule says that you are not allowed to have consecutive future drafts with no first round choices. The choices do not have to be your own pick, it can be any first rounder. Also, the rule only applies to "future" drafts. Let's say you trade this years first rounder and still have your 1st rounders in the next two years. As soon as this year's draft is completed, it is no longer a future draft, so you are allowed to trade the next year's first rounder (since you still have a pick the following year).

Mr. RocketSauce,

I have been posting and reading this website for not quite a year now and one of the things I pay most attention to are the trade ideas. In the time period that I have been part of this forum, this is the first trade that I've read that I have found to be not only reasonable, but solid. I looked at each trade again and again for a good while. I couldn't find any flaws that couldn't be manipulated in some way to make teams satisfied.
Four teams dealing together is obviously difficult, but either way, I'm a little excited to see a trade that is actually possible.

Rockets getting Odom AND Mcdyess is a bigger pipe dream then Garnett.

Juwon's contract ends within a couple years making their cap way below the limit.

If they trade for overbloated contracts, they'll ruin what they've been trying to do over the past year which is to be major players in free agency.

Of course, the kink in their plan is what sane free agent would want to goto Denver. One step at a time, Kiki. One step at a time...

Why don't we just trade the #1 to LAC for Odom #8 and #12 and leave the other two teams out of it.

I think youre right, but only if the players were content with where they are and if the teams are winners.

I like this trade alot. Like has been said before, it's actually tweakable and three teams needing drastic change (some more drastic than others) actually get the chance to recharge their squads.

I'm a HUGE fan of McDyess and even though we do have a backlog of 4s, none of them are true powerforwards. If the money is too much for Denver then send Moochie instead of Rice or KT instead of MoT. Barring major injury, the proposed line-up is a playoff line-up.

One thing that I thinks some of you are missing is that Antonio has a huge contract and is unhappy. Sure, they could just let him walk to free up the cap space next year, but that will only put them under by 6-7m. I have not checked this out so I could easily be wrong. 6-7m in free agency gets you middle of the road players and you usually end up overpaying for them. Denver knows this first hand. I'm sure that Kiki is dying to land the next Tariq Abdul Wahad (sp?). In order to trade Antonio, they WILL be taking on equal money. This is not a bad thing. It is just inevitable.

Denver, while a decent city, is not a hotbed for free agents. Antonio would probably be the first person to call prospects to tell them what a lousy choice he made. In order for them to win a free agents heart, they will probably have to overpay a bit. In retrospect, I'm sure they will need more in return. Like I said, find a way to get Derek Andersen or Ruben Patterson to Denver. I don't think that it's impossible.

Either way, I appreciate that some of you don't think I'm on crack. You never know how deep your bias runs and I could of easily added Shaq and Kobe to the trade.

Sauce, I hate to burst your bubble, but no way Denver will take Rice or taylor's contract. You criticize them for trading NVE and raef, but most gm and execs think they pulled a coup. They got rid of NVE at 10mill, Abdul Wahad at 6 yrs and 6 mill per and overpaying soft as butter Raef. Sure they got Howard , but its only for 1 yr. No one will have more cap room than Denver after next yr. A lot of people criticized Orlando after they lost shaq of clearing cap room, but the had the chance to sign McGrady and Hill in the same summer. I don't know what they will do with McDyess, but if he's fit and they don't really know if he'll resign, they could send him to say Milw for T.Thomas and maybe some cap filler then use their draft pick on say Butler or Wilcox or Gooden or Dunleavy if he's there. After that when the 20 mill of Howard comes off they could look to shore up the pg or whatever holes they have. Getting Denver to take overpaid players with long deals really isn't in their plans.

You maybe right. Maybe Denver is just going to sit this one out. I don't think so. I think Antonio is gone. But they probably don't want anything to do Mo and Rice.

Maybe Mo, Rice, and the #1 go to Portland for Rasheed and Bonzi or Derek. Maybe Derek and the number 8 and 12 go to Cleveland for Andre Miller and contracts. Maybe KT goes there as well. Then Maybe Andre Miller and the #15 go to LAC for Lamar.

Damn it's fun connecting Dots

Let's see.

Houston trades Kenny Thomas, Glenn Rice, MoT, the #1 and #15
Houston receives Rasheed and Lamar Odom and some trash

Cleveland trades Andre Miller and trash
Cleveland receives Derek Andersen, #8, #12

Portland trades Rasheed and Derek
Portland receives Rice, MoT, and #1 (plus trash to make it work)

LAC trade Lamar Odom, #8, and #12
LAC get Andre Miller, Kenny T and #15

Maybe this one is even more crazy then the first. To quote Al Pacino in
Insomnia "This guy crossed the line and didn't even blink"
