Yes, true, thanks for that....must stick to my strengths. I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and dog gone it, people like me. DD
Until GM becomes a private company again, the only American company I will consider is Ford. Chrysler is an Italian subsidiary now so they do not count as American anyways. Ford has some very good products, so they are more than a capable filler for now for those considering an American brand. It does not hurt that Ford and GM models are near or at the top of every quality survey out there.
To clarify, I meant the GMC Acadia, Chevy Outlook and Buick Enclave (the latter being a luxed up version kinda like the Escalade to your neighbor's Tahoe)
All of China, pretty much, and since China is quickly becoming the world's leading car market, Buick is essential to GM survival and profitability. It does not hurt that Buick has an excellent crossover (Enclave) and now a premium sedan (Lacrosse) that are REALLY REALLY popular among those Chinese buyers. Buick and Cadillac are among the top selling brands in China. GMC from what I hear is key to the GM market in the Middle East, which is like the 3rd largest in the world. So that is the reason GM is keeping those two brands. I remember hearing an analyst saying once that GM's future is really in the overseas market, where they are doing pretty darn well and are very profitable. Obviously the North American market is important too because of volume, but moving forward all GM needs to do is break even in its NA market and continue its profitable ventures and expansion overseas, especially in Asian market. Essentially, GM sees itself replacing American market with a more lucrative Chinese one, and if things keep going as they are now that plan will likely succeed.
Don't count them out yet...i wouldn't be surprised at all if both sides are taking a hard-line stance in negotiations and Penske resurrects this deal.
Any reason as to why Buick is doing so well in China? I know I saw quite a few Dodge and Fords in the UAE... which I thought was pretty weird.
