The same socialist shell game has been played for the last 100 years, only the names have changed but not the goal or the deception.... Here is a speech from almost 50 years ago by Ronald Reagan speaking out against socialized health care... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/fRdLpem-AAs&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/fRdLpem-AAs&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
And Here is Some Vintage Pro-Inflation Propaganda <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/99Dzdc1H0wM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/99Dzdc1H0wM&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I always vote for Ron Paul when he runs for congress. It's nice to be stereotyped. I think republicans and democrats are all smug and obsessed with things they can't change. That's my stereotype for the day.
And conservatives have been mislabeling any kind of social progress: child labor laws, womens rights, civil rights, or healthcare - as "socialism" or "communism" for the same amount of time.
Oh Ronnie... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZW7031Qk3Pk&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZW7031Qk3Pk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Labeling all conservatives as being against any type of social progress is about as smart and accurate as labeling all liberals as pot smoking hippies that won't get a job and hate America. In other words, it's just dumb.
Sorry I didn't get into this thread earlier, but, man, I just woke up in a drug-induced haze after attending the Hate America Rave last night, which I paid for by cashing my unemployment and blood bank checks.
I couldn't agree more. Rick Perlstein (author of the phenomenal "Nixonland") thinks so too : The real failing has not been the decline in discourse. Public debate has always been inane in this country. It is the decline in journalistic standards that is to blame:
But with respect to the four issues I mentioned: civil rights, womens rights, labor rights and healthcare; with my assertion that conservatives unfairly painted them as communist for the same "100 years" that OP alleged, it's completely accurate.
