Okay, i know there are some threads open on possible trades etc. but i had to make this one to see how people feel about Cassell. Do you think Cassell is an option ?
He'd be a great one, but would REQUIRE moving Francis and/or James out. Les is already wanting the payroll trimmed, and it's hard for anyone to justify carrying 5 point guards on the roster. Evan
my bad chap, i didnt know there was stipulation to post in this wonderful thread. Anyways, it would be nice but only a pipedream... satisfied?
I'm here. Another annual Let's get Sam back thread. I think the first one started when Maloney got whipped by Stockton.. it died down when get first got Steve, but then when he over dribbled his welcome with the Rockets, it started again.. My contribution to this thread is to educate the newbs that Rafer.. was Sam's backup when he was playing for the Bucks. He was a backup PG. I had a 20inch CRT Sanyo TV when the "lets get Sam back" threads started.
I doubt the Clips would take Francis, James or Rafer back given that none of them are expiring... Rockets should be willing to move any of them to get Cassell, old or not. Rockets could still use their expirings to get a lower contract like Cassell's, who is off the books this summer. Cassell could be bought out after the trading deadline, but I'd bet he goes to Boston or Denver.
He would be perfect for Boston because he's played with KG and Ray Allen for most of his career. KG - low post Ray - Long range Pierce -slasher Cassell -mid range Cassell + Celtics > Randy Moss + Patriots
If the Rockets got Cassell, they could "ROBERT HORRY" him. play him minimal minutes til the playoffs. then in the playoffs use him to finish games.. hey that's what we did to win the 1st two championships! duh!
Huh? That's how San Antonio is using him right now, he was a starter for the Rockets that played regularly in the regular season.
that's what i meant, how the Spurs used him. and letting Sam finish the games is how Rudy used him back in the day.
personally i think someone like Sam would be a great addition, and is something the Rockets need. He'd be the experienced floor general, controlling the tempo in games. Something the rox lacks without Rafer on the floor. T-mac is a terrific passer and play maker, but in terms of controling the tempo, he is no real PG. Sam'd also provide some veteran presence, something the rox lost when traded away J.Ho. He'd also give us another option in last-shot situations. Him or D.Fisher are exactly the type of player rockets need. experienced, clutch PGs. the question is......how'd we get one?
I'm all aboard for Sam Cassell coming off the bench and playing somewhere around less than 20 minutes. And then When April and May kicks off, I'd like to see him play about 30, maybe 35 minutes. He could be the third option, or... in some cases the first option. I love Steve and All, but I would try and get Steve shipped to LA so he could be reunited with his best buddy.
