No. How are you going to compare him to Eddie House? House shoots barely above 41%. Salim is a faster and more atheletic version of steve kerr. We all know if you can shoot lights out, you have a place in the nba. He's not going to be a star, but he'll be a major role player for some team.
I think Damon Jones or Juan Dixon are much better comparisons than House. Salim is a deadeye with tremenous range, and has solid court sense. He just has good (not phenom) athleticism and quickness, and much less than average handles for an NBA PG. Salim would be effective as a PG for a team that runs the ball through another guy for their set offense (SA, Hou, Mia, etc)--I think late 1st is where he will be drafted. Adams could use another year of college ball to work on his shooting and round out his overall game, he had a great game yesterday but is far less consistent than Salim has been.
He is not a good defensive player at the point or two. He is not a good ballhandler and doesn't get a lot of assists. He is a good three point shooter. One dimensional players don't last in the NBA.
The Arizona coaches say he is the best perimeter defender this year. He is nba stopper, but he would not be a bad defender of ones. The second part is more accurate, he isn't a good ball handler for an NBA PG prospect. His assists are misleading though because his job was to shoot as his teammates were so inconsistent from the outside (such inferior shooters). When his teammates had a better shot than he had (which means substantially closer and/or more open) he would pass it. I like the language here. Yeah, he is a "good" three point shooter the way Reggie Miller and Steve Kerr were "good" shooters. There is room for your Steve Kerrs, Damon Joneses, Job Barrys, Tim Ledgers, BJ Armstrongs, Carig Hodgeses, Kenny and John Paxons of the league. Pure shooters in fact can have lengthy careers as valuable guys off the bench on the right team. Unlike quickness and athleticism, shooting deteriorates rather slowly post late 20s.
By one-dimensional I mean he is only a 3 pt specialist. Guys like Damon Jones who also play great defense and have great assist to turnover ratios are not one-dimensional. There are examples of players who actually get on rosters in the NBA like Hoiberg. But they typically don't get into the eight man rotation. And I really don't care if the Clippers sign him. VG isn't about to draft somebody that can't play defense and is a bad ball handler. Maybe Salim is a good defensive player in college but I don't think he will be in the NBA.
Damon Jones isn't that great of an individual defender and his A/TO is so strong because he makes the fundamental plays, not because he is a creative playmaker. I think him and Stoudemire have a lot in common. I agree Salim will be a bench guy, but he will be within an 8 man rotation. That pure shooter tweener guard used to give a punch to the offense is usually the 6th or 7th man.
