i can't believe they simply just didn't use the windows api for the frame. aero glass doesn't work on it and i can't resize it on any edge and corners besides the bottom right, just like a real mac . no thanks, i'll stick to firefox. oh.. and i don't quicktime.
Already installed it. Trying out many of our applications with it. Looks smooth and... shiny... What issues with gMail are those you talk about?
I'm a big Apple fan, but I don't see how Safari can compete with Firefox simply because of the extensions. I'll download it when I get home and give it a try though.
One of the things that already is beginning to annoy me is the "maximize" button and the "restore" button on the title bar. I use a dual-monitor set up, and Windows XP recognizes it as such. When I am in Safari (I am using it to post this entry), I click on the "maximize" button to make the window expand fully, but this only works on the #1 screen/monitor. If I move the Safari window over to the second monitor and I try to maximize, the window goes off outside of the screen of the second monitor, and I have to move the window with right-clicking it on the task bar and selecting "move", or by doing ALT+TAB to go to it, and then ALT+SpaceBar+M to move the screen into view. It is annoying the sh*t out of me, but I guess the way to fix it is to keep it in restore view. Another annoying thing is that the "Thread tools" and the "Display Modes" tables appear only at the bottom of the page, and not in the space right on the top of the thread, like they do on FireFox and IE. I guess the developers of the BB forums didn't take "safari" browser into consideration. One thing I enjoy seeing, though, is how the "focus" changes as a light blue highlight, and the textarea where I am typing this reply right now is highlighted. The "focus" is blue. The entire button scheme and radio button schemes for Safari make me think I am using a MAC. It is sort of smooth, in a way, to think you're in a MAC environment. Another thing I like is how the VIEW-SOURCE has a highlight-type pop-up selection when looking for something in the code (that was how I found the Thread Tools problem). Try the view-source screen. It looks very useful when you are trying to find code in the page. It's not NOTEPAD. In all, a very nice improvement for PCs. I might just stick with this. So far, most of our web sites here @ the university work.
Is that different from Firefox's "View Selection Source" option (highlight an area on the page, right click and view selection source)?
Nope. I know FireFox allows you to select something on the page and right-click to view only that selection's source, but this is not like it. It's sort of like it... but it does a "POP" when it finds the first occurrence, bringing your attention to it. Nice feature if you're a developer and are troubleshooting something.
if you want development tools check out http://developer.mozilla.org/ nothing in i.e. or safari beats ff in that department especially if you want to make your webpages 508 compliant (as required by the university i work at... eventually).
You're right, Kyakko. With EXTENSIONS and WebMonkey this and Add-Ons that, nothing comes close to FIREFOX. Too bad "Web Developer" never went a higher version...
Microsoft gave up on IE for Mac years ago. Why would Mac bother making Safari for Win, particularly when Firefox is better than all of them?
ok, just found by far the coolest feature of this build, and one i wish FF supported. you can resize the compose window when making a bbs post! in the lower right hand corner of the window there's a little triangle- just drag it to the size you want...
If by handful, you mean the thousands of Apple employees and the multi-billion dollar empire that is Apple, then ok.
That feature is available on a lot of blogs. Only certain WYSIWYG editors provide it and it only works on some operating systems/browsers. The one in Wordpress works in pretty much every browser.
I'm guessing one reason would be to give those that don't own an Apple box the ability to develop stuff for the iPhone easily. Somebody's gotta make 3rd party apps for the phone, but with only a 5-10% marketshare, most developers don't have access to machines they can develop on.
