Well, I run a mile or two after I work out about 3 - 4 times a week...I've found what works for me are , Saucony shoes are the best...very comfortable and I just bought some new ones a couple of weeks ago...Sports Authority has a discounted section... On a side note, Nike shoes are crap for running, from my personal experience...I am about to go thru the return process and mail back some Nike Shox I bought for cross training...I kept feeling a wierd pain on the right side of my right foot...come to find out there was a metal bar sticking out from inside the wall...I called the 800 number and got a claim number, so hopefully they'll give me some better shoes..
Forgot to mention in the post earlier...the shoes that helped my shin splints and felt light as a feather were Mizunos..
Just got these: ASICS NIMBUS 9 They're great, really comfortable. But, i would recommend the advice noted previously in the thread, in terms of getting an expert opinion for what is best for your feet -- all are not created equal
Ever thought that maybe it's not the shoes... or the feet... or the legs? Spoiler Are you obese, man? I don't mean to sound like a meanie, here, man, but maybe try jogging lightly on a treadmill before going out on the ROAD? Get your feet adjusted to running first.
Even if that's not an issue, it's always a good idea to start out light. No matter how much you ran before, if you haven't run for more than a couple months, you'll want to start out by running in 20-minute spurts (or less), or you should be fastwalking/lightly jogging. I was a 10+ miles a day guy before my back problems did me in. But even for me, if it had been awhile, I had to start out slow. And again on the shoes... for me, Mizunos are the best. Bar none. I love how light and "breathable" they are. But go somewhere where you can get your step type analyzed. The same shoes don't work for everyone.
The store will put you on a treadmill than decide which type of support you need. Then they will let you try on some different shoes in this type to see which you like best.
i use asiscs gel foundation 7, i have some foot problems and these are hands down best running shoes i have ever owned.
I'm a Brooks man myself. I always get a pair of whatever the latest pair of Brooks Adrenalin GTS series is. I started at 4 and I'm up to the GTS 7's now. I hear good things about the Asics DS Trainers though.
I like Saucony running shoes. They make the nicest looking ones. I run about 5-7 miles a few times a week. I think Asics makes the worst looking running shoes. As for best for actual running and support, I have no idea. But you gotta by stylin always!
I wouldn't consider myself obese, I AM overweight though. I am pretty sure that has alot to do with it. Which is the reason I started running/jogging in the first place. If it wasn't for the pain in my shins/calves I would be able to run nonstop.
Your pain may or may not be due to your shoes. But you need a good pair that fits your running profile regardless. Until you learn what kind of shoe you need, get advice from a running store. As already mentioned, Fleet Feet or Lukes Locker are both good stores - I don't find one better than the other. Finish Strong Sports (they have a shop by Memorial Park) is also good. The best shoe for you will depend upon your stride (pronator, supinator, or neutral), weight, and comfort. You can learn about this stuff on the web (runnersworld.com is a good place to start). Once you learn what kind of shoe works for you, then you don't need a running store any more. The only way to figure out what brand you like is to try them. Personally I am a Saucony man (5 pair in my closet at the moment), but I would never assume that would mean you would like them. Another thing is that you don't have to pay $100 or more for a quality pair of running shoes. I run in an older style that I only pay about $50 a pair for. They seem fine when I am picking up my hardware after the race.
