We should start a "Who is better: Stevenson or Bogans?" thread I think the two players nearly the same but Bogans cheaper.
IMO is a good trade we get the 11 and a player for backup maybe we can let david wesley go and use the money to another FA, or a back up for bob sura
if they want to trade up, how about throw us arroyo instead of stevenson. what good is stevenson going to do for us?
he was gonna opt out anyway. if anything, this is a sign that we won't get him. he could've stayed under contract so we could trade #8 and the TE for him and #11, but not anymore.
You are absolutley right. This is the exact type of player you don't want on our team. I can't think of a worse type of player to have around Yao Ming and Tracy Mcgrady than Deshawn Stevenson. Lets not add a player just to add different players now. Keyon Dooling, a solid backup point guard like that is a player that could be of more value to the Rockets.
As I said in another thread: Rockets draft Carney at #8. Orlando drafts Redick at #11. Rockets send Carney and the Moochie TE to Orlando for Stevenson. Orlando sends Redick and Stevenson to Houston. Stevenson would then cost about $9.9 million over 3 years, or $13.8 million over 4 years. Now you have your starting SG and 3rd guard for years to come, and the Rockets save money on Redick because they get him at #11 price instead of #8 price. Orlando gets Carney who is the guy that fits their team best.
BTW why does everyone keep saying it's a trade of the #8 for the #11? It isn't it's a hold the pick, take Orlando's guy at #8 Carney (so they can't get him despite having the #11 pick) then swapping it For Redick (Houston's guy) and nabbing Stevenson (Rockets new starting SG). It is NOT trading the #8 for the #11. Why is everyone so confused?
No if he stayed in his contract he would start at $3,000,000 if he opts out THEN is signed he THEN gets $4.2 million through the sign and trade with Rockets Moochie TE. This is exactly what he and Orlando would do if he was going to be traded to Houston for the Moochie TE.
Like I said, we can't do a sign and trade until after the moratorium. That's almost two weeks after the draft. Teams aren't going to draft a guy and hold him until then. Hell the Rockets can't even talk to Stevenson or his agent until after the draft. If something goes wrong then you're stuck with a draft pick that you don't even really want. So no way a deal goes down involving Stevenson and our draft picks. Start floating Vasquez, Dooling, Hedo, and their 2nd rounders if you want to talk Orlando/Houston draft day trades. (I would be mildly interested if they were willing to swap our picks along with Juwan and Hedo)
Why does the moratorium have anything to do with the trade? The trade is a DRAFT DAY trade, that means it is DEPENDENT on Houston taking Carney so Orlando gets him, then Orlando taking Redick so Houston gets him. That's all that means, teams do this all the time. Once this is done they can wait however long they need to to complete the trade.
Also you're wrong that Rockets could not talk to Stevenson, if he wanted a trade and orlando and Houston talked they DID talk to him. Stevenson was NOT a FA, he was a player with an option, he was NOT a FA until he opted out. He would opt out so the trade could be completed, and wait to opt out until the agreement on the trade was finalized, again this is exactly what teams do all the time.
No they didn't talk to him. You couldn't possibly be more incorrect. It's against the CBA to talk to anybody who's under contract or prospective free agents before free agency begins. It's called tampering. That's why teams make such a big deal about reaching out to guys the second that free agency starts, because they couldn't talk to him before. I guarantee you that no sign and trades have been finalized. No sign and trades can even be talked about. Stevenson is not going to be a Rocket next season, let it go. Does nothing for us, it's more likley Wesley is resigned.
If you want to put it differently, simply say we can do better. I'd much rather draft a player at the 8th spot, than give it up to Orlando for Stevenson. If we move the pick, it won't be because of this guy.
Stevenson is essentially Bogans with a worse attitude. Would you pay Bogans $4.2 mill per year? That would be fiscal insanity.
The rumor going around Orlando is Diener, Dooling, rights to Vasquez, and #11, for Swift and #8. I just can't see that happening, even if you throw in Deshawn with the TE deal later on. It gives us a bunch of undersized guys who either can't shoot or can't defend plus a Euro. Same as last year. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
And w/o outside shot. The guy made just 2 3-pointers in 82 games last season. He made less 3-pointers during his entire 6-year career than Bogans did only last season.
