Forgive me if this has been posted, i'm not trying to start too many threads....Lock it up if this is a retread.

What will Rudy T's new position in the organization be? It hasn't been determined yet right? Any speculation? Will it be just a consultant?

    CD mentioned something about "scouting."

Something like, and I paraphrase..."Who would have thought, 20 years later, Rudy would return to scouting!"

    Something like that.

I don't think they have really completely decided on what he will do. They did say that he would be scouting alot and with an emphasis on Europe. I suspect he can basically do as little or as much as he wants. After all, his best friend is the GM of the club

Apparently Rudytruly loves scouting...and history shows he's pretty good at it

Hopefully, Rudy shall stay with the organization ... but it wouldn't surprise/disappoint me at all, to see him coach again with another team.

& kick the Rockets ass in the process.

This move was about where Rudy IS NOT...like our coach vs. what he is going to do.

No question in my mind he got moved out and they're just making up a role for him. IMHO he'll be back in coaching with another team after ~ one year in neverneverland.

Unless I miss my guess, JVG's style and success will only accentuate Rudy's recent shortcomings.

Scouting seems to be one of the better jobs in the NBA.

    Sounds very like

"Legend come Scout cause we are still paying him and don't want to fully disgrace a Houston Icon who is also battling illness"

I'm sure it's a very challenging job but I personally think it would be fun to evaluate talent and travel around the world.

Also, the job seems low stress, which is a definite plus for me.

Perhaps, for a day or a week or a month, but it would get real old pretty quickly.

    Either:

    (a) 12 hour days in the video room.

    (b) cramming into COMMERCIAL flights day after day (made worse with security nowadays), and rushing hundreds of miles in a rental car to the next town.

    (c) When you do like a guy's skills, you have to try and wrangle the truth from his coaches about things like "character."

... after all that, you get the guy, and he becomes successful, you get NO credit.

It may be low-stress for RT, but not for the normal scout on a tight schedule looking to move up the ladder...

    from Rocket River:
Wasn't there some talks between Van Gundy and CD about the need to expand the scouting department? I can see Rudy more or less being an administrator/coordinator and personnel consultant and only traveling in special situations.

We know he's got pull with CD, and even if Rudy had left under ideal circumstances, this would seem to be a logical place for him in the organization. As it is, it's an apparently expensive one for Les.

    :(

    I'm sorry.

Not saying I WANT that to happen, just that it wouldn't surprise me. Let's avoid that crap, and hope that Les treats Rudy well, & keeps him happy enough to stay with us.

    Forever & ever ... amen.

I would hope Rudy drops by time and again at Rockets practices just to give the players a morale boost.

Yeah, right. As soon as that contract is up, I wouldn't be surprised if Les called security and had RT escorted from the premises.
