I just said hello to Rudy T in Whole Foods on Wilcrest, and he looked just great. He was in golf clothes, well tanned, gregarious, and appeared healthy. He is the reason that I became a Rocket's fan, and I am praying for his good health first and foremost. As far as I am concerned, the Rockets can go 0-82 as long as Rudy beats his health problems.
One couldn't emphasize this guy's affable personality enough. I met him after a Rockets' open practice a few years ago. After exchanging greetings I got a picture with him. We could had spoken all day but I knew I had to get on my way with the line the way it was. Its great even during uncertain times he is able to maintain that amiable attitude towards life. Wholeheartedly agree with your last sentence and am pleased he is doing well.
He was a nice guy guy when I said "hello" to him in the summer leagues. He walked up the bleachers on his way out and he stopped to shake my hand and say "hi". He was pretty much nice to anybody that came by. He took pictures with several little kids there, too, and never really turned anybody down when they requested autographs or pics taken with him.
I saw him at an Italian festival off of Kirby back in 1995 and he is about 6'8" or 6'9" easy. He has big hands and is extremely friendly.
Rudy is big, and in very good shape for his age. I love the story about Rudy dunking on Wilt the Stilt. Wilt carried a grudge against Rudy for the rest of their playing days. Fact is- Rudy could throw it down.
I took a piss next to Rudy T a couple of years ago when they had training camp in Austin. That was cool. (And no, no pics)
Rudy is just about the nicest and coolest celebrity one can hope to meet. I've met him a couple times and he has always taken a picture or smiled or signed an auto.
Rudy may be a great guy, but I suspect even he would have beat your ass if you photographed him relieving himself. On the other hand, I told him that I was a regular reader of ClutchCity.net, and he said that he remembered an encounter with a CC.net denizen. He said to tell "Tiny" hello.
I was lucky enough to meet him back in 97. Of all things to talk about, we talked about the movie The Commitments. He's a very down to earth humble guy and a big blues fan too.
I believe the Rockets would have made the playoffs, if it hadn't been for Rudy's health concerns. Hell, we could still be playing right now as far as that goes. So get well soon Rudy, because it's obvious you have an affect on people.
i dunno about blues, but in early '99 i saw him at numbers watching that ska/reggae band, the specials. didn't say anything to him though... respectful of his privacy. nice show
