The US out of medal contention with mostly Allstars (grated no kpby shaq or duncan) regardless it was the cream of the crop of the NBA. If u flashback 4 years ago Rudy led a bunch of scrubs to a 2nd place finishin the WC. I think this speaks alot of the calibur and syle of coaching Rudy possesses. Not saying that he would have led this team to gold but i think its dafe to say things would have gone a lot diffrently
Agree. though I think Rudy had a slightly better team to play with (cARTER, Garnett) but either Rudy was super or Karl is screwed up. Maybe a bit of both there!!!
He is talking about when Rudy took a team of scrubs to the World Championships..BEFORE the Olympics. I agree, this does make you realize what a good coach Rudy T is... DD
Shame on US all stars unbeaten 5th Dream team.......... Now they have to struggle to play for the 5th .
he looks good because he is good he took carter, garnett, payton et al to the olympics (gold medal), and a group of europe-based US players & college "students" for the world champs (bronze) due to the lock-out
Its a good thing we have Rudy T. He is one of the best coaches in the league and one of the few that could actually put together a team of All-Star type players and actually get them to play together. Rudy and crew work on the fundamentals and are ideal for a young team like ours.
yea rudy does look good.. hopefully we he can look even better when he brings the rockets to a top playoff spot... *note* karl looks like that evil pig looking guy on Captain Planet....
it was a bronze medal and 3rd place finish with the CBAers and college players at Rudy's WC run.... you know this shows are fundamentally bad we appear to be against the rest of the world. We are flashy and have the best athletes, but cannot hit a jumper and run a fundamental offense. we can argue that this team was missing 5 allstars that would have absolutely dominated the world with no question, but still. There are players making 5-10 times what most of those Argentinian and Yugoslavian players are making and we got punked.....TEAM BALL wins against 2nd tier players.
this has got to be the lowest point in George Karl's life. First the Bucks miss the playoffs (despite being arguably the East's most talented team), and then this... Someone hand him a kleenex... He's fallen a long way since he's glory days with Seattle... But you guys are right that it just shows how good Rudy really is.
I know the thread refers to Rudy's coaching job at the Worlds in the past looking good compared to Karl in these games (which it does), but it made me think of how Rudy has been looking in the last couple of interviews I've seen. He appeared healthy, fit, relaxed and in a really good humor. RT looks like the cat that ate the canary. Anyone else notice?
Espn Insider has an article that hits the nail in the head as to why we lost. 1. Poorly put together team 2. Lack fo practice time - like 2 wks 3. Need of a coach with international familiarity -players, offenses, etc.. This team had little inside scoring, no one (other than an aging Miller) that can consistenly hit from the outside, and was unfamiliar with international rules. Honestly, I am glad we lost in the sense that, as some of you have said, hopefully it will show some of our youth that ball movement, shooting, and good defense are more important then being able to dunk.
The international teams have come a long way since 4 years ago... than again, the US team is playing at their home soil, so they supposely have home ground advantage... -G'day-
couldnt have happened to a better guy... i still hate him for running a zone on hakeem... next thing you know the 'dream team' with start bickering amoungst themselves ...call their coach a jack@ss...and the power forwards will gain a ton of weight..
