Full disclosure: I can't stand the guy.

But here's the specific issue I'm pondering. Rudy likes to appeal to conservatives by saying something like this: "Isn'titbetterthatItellyou... whereIthtand... than... shift my positions withtheprevailingwinds?" Which is an oblique acknowledgment that he's pro-choice, among other things. And the point of the statement is to score points for his steadfastness.

But then he also says, "Iamcommittedtoappointing... thtrict conthtructionist judges." Which is, as you all know, very much code for "pro-life judges."

That's not steadfastness at all. He saying he's pro-choice and that he should get credit for standing on principle, but making it clear that he will take no actions based on that principle.

Isn't that just a clever way to pull a Romney on the issue without getting called out for it?

I just can't imagine why repubs would want him as their nominee -- he has massive, glaring flaws that make him unelectable.

If nominated, Rudy will appoint pro-choice judges. He's being dishonest if he implies anything different, IMO. If he gets nominated and somehow, someway becomes president, the religious right will become completely irrelevant on the national political scene. The GOP will finally decide they don't want or need the RR in order to win.

If it's Rudy vs. Hillary in 2008, it will make Bush's attacks on Kerry look like a children's birthday party. The mud from both sides would be suffocating.

Think about it this way, Rudy is probably as Giu-ish a candidate that conservatives can tolerate.

In a roundabout way you've just conceded that Roe v Wade is paper-thin. Interesting.

You're perfectly aware that I've conceded no such thing. "Strict constructionist" is a phrase that, much like "states' rights," has little to do with actual constitutionality.

Any thoughts on Rudy's apparent duplicity?

the tyope of serious debate that has truly made D&D a great place to have open discussion..

    hmmm , lets see...

    "douche bag"
make fun of a speech impediment
make fun because *gasp* he had a little fun and dressed like a woman

    truly class acts.

i really dont think the pro-choice is that big of a deal. I think there are more important issues, plus I don't think most politicians dont even wand to deal with that whole can of worms.
