I think this post belongs here because it pertains to the Rockets roster and other teams rosters. So if the thread is locked or moved I completely understand.

My question is that I originally thought that the NBDL was going to expand and have team affiliations (like in baseball)? I think it would be a good system so you don't have guys like Boki riding the pine and not playing and thus stunting his growth as a player. At least in the NBDL or minor leagues he would be able to play everyday and have the opportunity to hone and refine his skills further and prepare him for NBA competition. I think this type of minor league system would benefit players like Chris Wilcox, Nickoloz Tskitishvili, Qyntel Woods, etc. who don't usually get playing time unless its a blowout.

I think having a minor league system would help improve the play of basketball in general because players would have to refine their skills and practice more on the fundamentals to make it to the big show.

Does anyone else think that this is a good idea, or am I dreamcasting and/or being crazy?

It would be a great idea, especially with kids coming out of high school all the time now. 18 and 19 year olds are not good enough yet and could benefit a couple of years in the minors. Half of the NBA teams are worse now than if we had minors because they are playing their young players to get them experience, but it hurts there current play now.

It would destroy a good portion of college basketball unfortunately... What's the point of going to college if you can get drafted out of High School and play right away in a minor league affiliated with a particular team?

Something needs to be done to allow college kids to be drafted and still maintain eligibility. That'd be the best of both worlds. Maybe the NBA team drafting has to pickup the draftee's scholarship, and has the rights to the player whenever they decide to turn pro. The rule also being that you can't leave school mid-semester, so you can't jump ship durring the middle of the NCAA season. The draftee would also be on the rookie pay scale for whatever year he enters the NBA rather than the year he got drafted. There are clearly conflicts with any system but the NBA and College games should try to find a better way to co-exist with one another, because they should be complimentary and they aren't right now.
