I just got the mytouch4g a month back. There are a bunch of apps that come pre-installed that I just can't remove. I am guessing it is a permissions issue that would need to be resolved by "root" access. I know the warranty gets voided once you do root your phone, but am I right in assuming that if you do need to take it in for some reason, that you can restore the phone to factory settings and t-mobile wouldn't be able to tell that you rooted the phone? Lastly, since android 2.3 is out. Once I root the phone, can I install 2.3 on the rooted phone giving it the vanilla os just like the G2?
I started a thread about froyo, and people were like "huh??" so yeah, try www.phandroid.com find the forum for your phone, you can also try xda developers. I don't think there is a gingerbread rom yet for the mytouch but there will probably be. You will be pleased by rooting your phone, just don't mess up. Good luck. p.s tmobile sucks

thank you sir. I agree, t-mobile can be wack, but my plan is too cheap to switch to another carrier. I think it's worth the monthly bill which I pay for.
hehe, just messing with you, can't argue with saving money I just strongly dislike them. anyways, you might want to read this as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882389
wasnt that bad at all. took about an hour and that prob because im not too tech savvy. liking it already! i hated the extra software that was there. I used the ice galcier or whatever rom its called. Thanks!
theres a huge selection of roms on xda that can make your phone run smoothly and custom kernels that boost battery life. My Evo4g is so much better after putting a custom rom on it.
