If Morey can find a way to land Rondo without giving up Parsons, I'm all for it. To me, Parsons is Scottie Pippen reincarnated.
If rondo is making 12 mil and Cyrbex said some teams might offer Parsons close to the max doesn't that mean Parsons is better than rondo?

If this team wants to compete against the elite teams, they will need a SF that can lock down perimeter opponents...if that guy is Covington...then by all means trading Parsons might be the right thing. If you are not sure, and you know that Parsons is gonna cost the team, why not wait... Either way, I think Parsons means a lot to the team chemistry. He had a lot to do with building an emotional connection with all the players...Trading him would be detrimental to team chemistry imho... Rondo is a top 5 PG when healthy, and the Rockets will be taking a huge gamble on him in that regards. The issue is more of having a glut of PGs on this team. Harden can handle the rock and so can Lin...Where does that leave Aaron Brooks and Patrick Beverly. As much as it may pain Morey to make a move, I think the best bet is to see what this team has...and then move on from there...Rondo can be had for the right price in the offseason(if im not mistaken on contract year??)

Do we really need a 3rd "media crowned" star? There was a team last year who had a 3rd star and won the ring. This 3rd star's regular season average (last year): 33 mins/game 16.6 pts 6.8 rbs 1.7 ast 0.9 stl 1.4 blk .535 % Our very own CP has the following average for this year: 37.7 mins/game 17.0 pts 5.6 rbs 3.7 ast 1.1 stl 0.4 blk .481 % If we traded CP, I can't see how this 3rd superstar's production will greatly excel what dream boy's current contributions. This 3rd superstar might be able to beat those number but are we willing to pay that extra $$ and taking that extra time to incorporate him in team's play? Bottom line, CP has been contributing just as much as this other superstar (and we are also winning) without the $$ baggage. Sometimes... it just appears that the "grass is greener" on the other side but in reality, the grass you have in your backyard gets you just as high
If Parsons can improve his one on one game he will emerge as the 3rd star...Id keep him. I do think we need a change at point guard and he doesnt have to be a superstar. I would prefer a guy who has the same game as a Mario Chalmers or George Hill, good perimeter defenders and good spot up shooters.
When has the team with the fifth best record in the NBA ever seriously shaken up their roster at the trade deadline? When has the team with the fifth best record in the NBA not been considered a serious contender? How can a fan base so seriously under value their players and so incredibly over value another team's best player, especially when that player is coming off of a devastating injury and could Rosed/Kobed any game now? Do teams with the fifth best record this late in the season ever not act conservatively or do anything other than try to get everyone healthy and the rotations down? When has Morey ever been deemed stupid?
Rondo is not a top 5 PG... Paul, Irving, Parker, Westbrook, Curry, and Dragic are all definitively better, and there are a bunch more you could argue are better.
I hope not, at some point Morey needs to stand pat with a core and let them develop together. The Rockets of the past added pieces like Ellie, but you also had youngsters contributing, like Horry and Cassell etc. I don't mind him moving Asik and possibly Lin as we have pieces that can do what they do already but I don't want anyone else that is in the rotation moved. What are you talking about that Morey values? In the past, he has drafted well in the second round, but then traded these players when their value was the highest. Players like Carl Landry and Aaron Brooks (the first time we had him). Parsons would seem to fit into a similar model as those guys. But things are different now. We are no longer trying to acquire assets to trade for a star but instead trying to find the right pieces to fit around the stars we already have. I might be accused of being a homer who overvalues our own players, but I don't care. There are seriously very few players in the NBA that I would include Parsons in for a trade.
The Celtics and Thunder swapped Perkins and Green in 2011. Philly traded for Dikembe in 2001 when they were leading the east. The Lakers traded away Eddie Jones and Elden Campbell in 99 for Glen Rice. In 94 the Jazz traded Jeff Malone for Hornacek. The Lakers made the Gasol trade when they were at the top of the west standings.
This screams high risk high reward. We don't even know how Rondo will play after his ACL injury. This contract may end up looking like Deron Williams, worst case scenario. Too risky to give up Parsons IMO.
When you're a team that has seriously underperformed shooting 3s, you don't trade away your best 3PT shooter to get back a player who's an awful 3PT shooter.
Another thing to consider is that, if we do not trade for Rondo we have Lin and Beverly at the point, but if we trade Parsons, who do we have at the 3? Garcia? Asik !?!?!?!?! Just kidding with Asik of course...but, seriously, who would be the 3? I love Rondo, but Beverly and Parsons is better than Rondo and Garcia. I am all for pursuing Rondo, but trading Parsons to do so would be a mistake.
One thing to keep in mind is that Morey is not dumb. He is very unlikely to trade Parsons without getting back somebody else to play the 3.
