Hey, anything that could help this team win more games I'm all for it. It would at least give Cat and JJ some more rest. With Mercer coming in for some minutes at the SG or SF and contributing, that just helps our overall offensive attack from start to finish with the fresher legs of the starters, not to mention fresher legs for defense. Hey, and since he came from SA he may be able to give a little input on how to play against them better.

Spurs Place Ron Mercer On Waivers

    http://www.nba.com/spurs/news/spurs_waive_mercer_040227.html

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have placed guard Ron Mercer on waivers.
The Spurs obtained Mercer on July 24, 2003 as part of a three team deal that brought Mercer and Hedo Turkoglu to San Antonio, sent Danny Ferry and Scot Pollard to Indiana and Brad Miller to Sacramento. In 39 games with the Spurs this season Mercer averaged 5.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in 13.2 minutes per game.

My vote is not now... maybe after the season.
Mercer is a strange player... he's always had the physical assets to be a star but has always underachieved.

Career 25% 3pt shooter. Below average rebounder. Below average handles. Below average passer. Decent defender. Can score if he is the primary or secondary scorer.

With his athleticism he could be Artest-like.

I'd give him a 1-year flyer in the offseason to see if a JVG training camp would make him into an off the bench shutdown defender/scorer.

I think we should pick him up hes been on the decline last 2 years but he hasnt really got many min on the floor. He can help us out alot at the 2 & 3 though beucase theres no way JJ can keep playing 40+ min a game.

mercer is a highly talented player who would be an asset to this team......the only problem is no one has ever wanted him whereva he's played....makes u question his character......plus if the rockets did pick him up.....who would he take the place of......

There's a reason these guys are on waivers.

Mercer is an excellent mid-range shooter.

But he's one of the most selfish players you'll ever see and the guy knows absolutely nothing about how to play in a system (cough JVG cough).

Sure, if we actually had a need for a wing player.

Mercer could be a bargain for a team in need though.
