i thought rudy didn't like rodrick very much. not sure, but i thought that's why we didn't hold on to him.
I think Rhodes could be a good defensive role player on this team. He can play 3 positions (PG, SG, & SF) depending on the match-ups. He should come cheap considering his lack of ability to stick with a team. I'm not sure if Rudy is willing to give Rhodes a 2nd chance, though. Remember, when building a young team for the future, not all the players can be superstars. We need to find some quality role players. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
His "lack of ability to stick with a team" as you stated should be your first clue... meditate on it a bit... the answer will come soon enough grasshopper. ------------------ Rocket fuel pumps through these veins...
I loved Rhodes game when he was here. Yes, I hear he was a bit of a problem child. I would give him another chance. He had the best court savvy of any player the Rockets have had in a LONG time. I would love to see him play on the Rockets team THIS year. I mean what do we have to lose? More games? DaDakota
I can see why he didn't fit the old offense, but he would seem to me to be a good fit for the running offense.
I say that we should get Rhodes if we have the chance. And well, WE CERTAINLY HAVE THE CHANCE. This season all the way through to the next season. I like Rhodes' versatility and defense. as Dreamer stated, he can play pg, sg, and sf. Plus we could always use another good defensiver player. Having both Rodrick and Shandon on the court at the same time could really help our team's defense out. Plus, Rhodes would fit in pretty well with this offense. We traded him because he didn't fit with out DIT offense. But we don't use that anymore, and he would be a good fit for our running offense. He's got good handles, good size, can slash, and who's knows, he might have a decent shot now.
Alaskan...I would think that if R squared had a decent shot now, combined with his previous defensive exploits he wouldn't of been let go twice this year, and been picked up already. [This message has been edited by Dreamshake (edited January 16, 2000).]
My buddy saw Rodrick Rhodes today at the Galleria area. Rodrick gave him an autograph and mentioned how he was a free agent. When asked if he was coming back to the Rockets, ROdrick said something to the effect of hopefully he will be back next season. He said how he doesnt really care for other teams, his preference is Houston. (of course) anyway, that might be something for future reference. Maybe, maybe not. It just brought back some good memories (maybe a few at least)......remember when Rodrick Rhodes and Jordan played in that one game? I cant think right now,(which play off season, etc.) anyway, you experts can take over from there. OH yeah, the lack of players on the team was mentioned(due to injuries, the Hamilton incident, others) My buddy had said I THOUGHT POSSIBLY YOU'D BE BACK WITH THE EXTRA SPACE, Rodrick had said something to the effect of OH YEAH I HAD THOUGHT ABOUT THAT TOO. (but im not sure about his position/availability anyway) Anyways, he's a nice guy. You can tell he'd like the opportunity to play again. ALthough i guess he's got a lot to prove because he didn't seem to be a big factor with his time he had already had in the NBA. Just thought I'd reflect on the old times, think about the future.
I always thought of Rhodes as an Augmon-type player (without the elasticity). On a team that could use more defense from a player who doesn't need a lot of shot attempts, he wouldn't be a bad bench guy. Much like Augmon is with Portland. Or McMillan (sp) with Seattle a few years back. Didn't Rhodes have a Hamilton-like arguement with Rudy?
I really liked Rhodes when he played with the Rox. He never got much playing time, though, and his free throw shooting percentage was not very high. He should be a welcome addition to the Rox, since he is a good small forward, one position this team needs more players in, and he is a slasher/defensive specialist, much like Shandon Anderson. The one thing he lacks is a good work ethic. What exactly was his argument with Rudy? What was Hamilton's argument with Rudy? Please tell me, i just wanted to know.
I dont think anyone can help us turn this season around. Especially Rodrick Rhodes. ------------------ Sir Charles is DA MAN.
Hamilton wanted more playing time and didn't appreciate the garbage time he got. I'm sure Rudy also wanted Hamilton to dedicate himself to getting in shape and working on his game. With Rhodes, I heard he didn't show the commitment Rudy wanted. I believe he showed up late for practices and didn't work on his shot in the offseason. This was just stuff I got off the radio.
The sounds of a Rhodes sighting: Clang! Thud! Swish (air ball)! We already have a bunch of guys who can't shoot, and definitely can't shoot free throws; why add another? Rudy got rid of one disgruntled wannabe, why replace him with a similar (albeit much, much smaller) version? I am tired of hearing about how "athletic" we've become. I'd be much more excited about signing some basketball players who can shoot nd run at the same time. The Rocks have a bunch of in-your-face, playground playing, everything-has-to-be-highlight dunkers, can-you-top-this passers (which often either miss or confuse the intended recipient). What we really need is some intelligent ball players who have a firm command of b-ball basics. Rhodes wouldn't add a thing; in fact, IMO, he would just be another distraction.
Unfortunately , the Rodrick Rhodes experiment ended due to Rodrick himself , he actually had a big argument w/Rudy as far as playing time and most importantly he felt he was not being used correctly , like PiP , he just had a melt down . Yes , he would fit better w/this offense but the question is, would Rudy T. want him back at the risk of messing w/team chemistry?? what little they have (mostly because of injuries).... I really don't think so....
NBA DEFINITIONS role player: an individual who is willing and able to play a position to compliment the team make up, so as to optimize that team's competitive opportunities. attributes of a role player: unselfish, coachable, broad offensive and/or defensive capabilities, intelligent, goal oriented, team-focused.Willing to sit on the "bench" for long periods, but stay in the "game" when called upon.
