http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rockets_Waive_Mickeal-63329-34.html Anybody have any insight as to why they did this now? I figured he would just spend the whole season on the IR.
With the Posey trade, Mickeal looks like a goner for good. that said... The deadline for all contracts becoming guaranteed for the rest of the season is Friday, I believe. It's cheaper to waive him now, so he goes off the books. Then if we need him later, we can 10-day him.
I am guessing that he was slated to play SF for us. But with the development of Hawkins and the most recent trade for Posey (not to mention T-Mo, Nachbar and Rice) there wasn't going to be any long term room for him on the team. What Mickeal could have brought to the team is what we already have in a young Posey. Chris
For some reason, I always thought Pete Mickeal was white... Whatever happened to BUBS? He/she must be heartbroken...
Now here comes the interesting part: Was Mickeal ever a Houston Rocket? He didn't play a single minute, so historically he won't appear in any archives. He won't be in my site's historical database. I was hoping he'd atleast play a minute and get the notch.
I feel a bit bad for the guy because he got injured before he really had a chance to prove himself and then the Posey trade happened which basically sealed his fate as a Rocket. Anyway...now let's sign George McCloud .
I think he was. He practiced with the team as a player and received a check like a player. IMO, he was a Rocket. Similar to guys on the practice squad in football.
So after the deadline passes, do you think we'll pick someone else up to fill that 15th spot, or just leave it open? Or even pick up Mickael again? I'd love to see Pig Miller on the team again
Vengeance, there's no need to sign anyone until needed. The 10-days have been in effect since Jan 6th. Clutch, Can't you give him one of Matt Maloney's notches. I'm sure no one will notice, and Matt owes us, anyhow.
Hmmm. I say he was a Rocket. He was named on a roster that was submitted to the league, and received a salary as a member of the playing staff. You make a good point though, Clutch. I wonder how many other non-Rockets there have been. Did that guy Joe Stephens ever see game time?
Mirsad never made the season roster. I think GB is asking how many players made a regular season roster but never played a minute.
Yeah ... Stephens played 2 games in 96-97 and 7 games in 97-98... http://www.clutchcity.net/playerinfo.cfm?PlayerID=159 I can't think of anyone off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure the Rockets have signed players to 10-day contracts during the season who never got a minute of playing time. You also have to look at players like Brian Shaw and Stacey Augmon -- they were acquired by the Rockets and Augmon even went through training camp with them, but they never were Rockets in a game.
Why don't we just send him to Shanghai? Another advice to Rudy: Tell all players that if they don't play D or aggressive O or pass the ball, they will be sent to Shanghai. Yao Ming will be the exception because he may well be home-sick now.
