From Monday's Chronicle: -- The Rockets once again will televise all 82 regular-season games, with 37 on Fox Sports Net and 45 on KTXH (Channel 20). Gene Peterson and Jim Foley will return on KPRC (950 AM), and Bill Worrell and Calvin Murphy return on television. This is the last year in the Rockets' respective TV and radio deals. Team president George Postolos, during our conversation earlier this month, said he hopes to meet in the next few weeks with Brian Purdy, top-dog at Clear Channel Radio's Houston cluster, and with Fox Sports Net southwest general manager Jon Heidtke to discuss new deals. Given the changing nature of the radio market, the Rockets may face a struggle duplicating their current radio deal, which was a sweetheart for the team in terms of advertising sales and airtime access. Postolos acknowledged the trend for stations to demand more control over ad inventory but said he is "strongly inclined" to seek a deal that mirrors the present arrangement.
Maybe they could start televising the games on Telemundo. I live in Clear Lake and sometimes have trouble picking up the local channels (directv), but I've always noticed that no matter how hard it is hailing, raining, lightning, thundering, snowing, etc..., I've always been able to get a crystal clear picture of Telemundo. Yeah...I can't speak a heck-of-a-lot of Spanish, but Rockets and Telemundo would make me happy. We might have to teach Bill Worrell and Calvin Murphy a bit of Espanol though. Sabado Gigante rules!!!
Same thing with radio stations! I used to work in the American National tower in Galveston, and I couldn't get any good radio stations in there...Yet, somehow, every single Spanish station came in crystal clear... Damn hispanics have some secret broadcasting technology that the gringos haven't figured out yet!
