Crispee, To add to your last post (if I remember correctly), it was OP that reported earlier in the year, after the Zone defense was implemented, that Rudy & the rest of the front office were at odds on how to deal with the Zone. Rudy wanted to attack it & the others wanted to defend it. With this acquistion, it's even more obvious that we're going to attack it. I'm excited, but even more excited about next year when MO will be back as well. Our starting lineup this year: C: Cato (The weakest link. Sure wish we could say "Good Bye".) PF: Jackson SF: Rice SG: Mobley PG: Francis Next year: C: Jackson (Cato will have proven that his lame a** is a lame a**) PF: Taylor SF: Rice SG: Mobley PG: Francis If that team can't attack the zone, then I don't know what can. For those that want a shot blocker so desperately, how about this idea. Since Moochie still hasn't signed & Fegan has worked out some S&T's, would anyone consider trying to acquire a package of Mookie/Foyle for Moochie/Walt. Foyle is a shot blocking fool, according to his stats, but I don't know anything else about him. The trade dollars don't work using those 4 players, but it does work for a Mookie/Foyle/Sura for Cato/Walt/Moochie(@$4.538 mill). Cato would probably be the deal breaker. Just a thought.
I hope you guys don't think he's gonna average 16 and 10 here. He won't get the ball as much. My point is, you Jackson-haters shouldn't say he's a bust if he doesn't average his old #'s. He'll be our 4th option, I expect 12 and 8, and that's enough.
I remember an interview on national TV last year about halway thru the season with Marc Jackson. What impressed me was his maturity, presence, and work ethic. He knew he needed a couple of years to develop....and so he worked on his game, and did exactly that. He was not surprised at all with his NBA success. So to those who think this guy may be a locker room problem, or a team "cancer," you are way off base. He is just the opposite: he is all character. With luck some of it will rub off on Cato. And there's no way I see Cato starting in front of Jackson once he learns the system.
I'm happy with the signing of M Jax. He'll probably be our starting PF this year but he has plenty of weaknesses. His defense, speed, hops, and the fact that he's not a natural C are among them. But the question is, when Mo T comes back next year and starts at PF, where does that put Cato and here does it put Jackson? Will Cato be the backup C again? Will Jackson be the backup PF/C? Cato has said he's finally gonna earn his paycheck this year after giving basically nothing and taking so, so much. If Cato puts up a solid season it's gonna be a tough decision to whether to start the natural C or natural PF at C.
Swami, quit hatin', b****. Marc Jackson is the next John Amaechi or Ike Austin. A terrible defender and rebounder(don't let his numbers fool you, it's Golden State). As Shaqkobe said, Corey Blount avged 8rpg after going to GS. Why don't we pick him up? Huh?
And just where is the proof that you are offering up?? or should we just believe what you say because you have a WHOLE 20- something posts here? Go back and read aeliott's post that clearly explains why that is not a valid argument about GS. besides, anyone who would back up that whinny litttle faker-lover needs to be put on everyones idiot/ignore list anyway. take off you hoser b**** indeed..
ShaqKobe-Who should we have gotten instead of Marc Jackson at PF/C. It's amusing how much you b!tch like a schoolgirl about the Rockets getting Jackson, but what C out there can we get who won't be a bust, according to you and Ms. Cleo.
kidrock, you make due with what you have. I know Cato sucks but I'd rather have defence and shotblocking at the C spot than Marc Jackson's mediocre rebounding and supposedly nice jumpshot that REALLY tailed off at the end of the year. The Rocks are a perimeter team now. Pretty much 100% perimeter if you ask me. We'd do best to just platoon 4-5 like the Bucks do and hope for the best. The Bucks win because they stick Ervin Johnson at the C, who can rebound, dunk and block shots. Sounds a lot like Cato! They win like that. Steve is better than Cassell. Allen is way better than Cuttino but their games are somewhat similar. Rice CAN post up and hit the long J like Big Dog, although Big Dog is a lot better. Rockets2K, I REALLY care whether I'm on your ignore list. It would hurt me deeply. Idiot... See, unlike most people here, I can be objective. Learn to be objective and then we'll talk.
So what you're saying is that the Rockets should have not gotten anybody? Right? Then let me ask you a question: do you think that the Rockets would make the playoffs by "standing pat"? If you do, then there's a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell you....
Uh, did you watch Cato at all last year? Cato is supposed to provide defense, but letting 6'1'' guards go through unchallenged usually isn't the definition of good defense. And Jackson's jumpshot tailing off had absolutely nothing to do with an injured groin, that sat him down the rest of the season, right?
OK ,we made a move to pick up the best available player to fill in for a devestating injury but, he only the 4th best bigman fron the Warriors. He probably won't make or break the Rockets season.
He won't bring us any closer to a championship! This guy is gonna be the next Ike Austin. I'm not saying we shouldn't have got him just to spite the Rockets. I'm saying don't sign him because he will hurt our cap in years to come and will b**** when he doesn't get shots. He tried to command the ball this year inside which is something a ROOKIE should never do. Injured groin or not, don't be surprised if this great J of his goes downhill. Know what GS fans are saying? They're happy he's gone because Troy Murphy brings pretty much everything Jackson does for 1.5 million instead of 4 mil/yr. Why not save the money and try and salvage Cato? At least he's better defensively than Jackson. Everyone is saying this is a huge steal for the Rockets and that's a huge load of BS. GS wouldn't let the Rockets take this guy unless they know something about him that we don't know. If he's this good, 4 mil/yr is a great bargain, GS would see that and pony up the money to keep him around for another year.
I really like this team now. I bet Steve and Cat and Eddie are all happy with this. That is the fun part of adding MJ, players on the team like him. Sorry Cato, now we have our 5 and the next train to leave the city has a ticket for you (I wish)
First you say, Then you say, Sounds like you posed and answered your own question in the same post. Why would they want someone who makes more money when they they have someone who could potentially play as well and play as well for less? Meaning it isn't as great a bargain for them as it is for the Rockets.
Who should we sign instead of Jackson at 3.25 million? Should the Rockets have stayed pat? Instead of telling us the problems with Jackson, give us some solutions regarding the Rockets. Also, I have no problem with Jackson, rookie or not, to command the ball. I don't want some pansy PF/C who doesn't want the ball inside. I would hope that every player on the Rockets would commmand the ball, justified or not. The guy is confident in himself, and his team's success, I see nothing wrong with that. All the great players have this trait. And the scrubs of the league should too. The fact that they don't is one reason why they are scrubs. The fact that Jackson wants the ball, reassures me about his abilities more than anything else.
6yrs 42mil, a severe injury and people think Taylor will be handed the starting job back. I hope he reads guerilla warfare, because thats what he'll need to get his job back. if, i think they will make the playoffs, why would rudy be so quick to interrupt the " chemistry"? If he plays well and we make the playoffs, taylor will be on the trading block. jackson is only 2 yrs older than Taylor anyway.
The point is, a young player like Marc Jackson shouldn't ever command the ball. He still hasn't earned that right. I'd rather just go out and sign some cheap players for a year(ala Corie Blount, Shawnelle Scott) and platoon C. These type of players know their roles and wouldn't have a problem just grabbing boards and hitting the odd garbage bucket. Maybe not Shawnelle Scott but there's plenty of fine scrubs out there. Ervin Johnson is VERY good defensively. Isn't he the team captain on Milwaukee? His defense at the 5 is what keeps them from being dominated a lot of nights. He's pretty much the only defense they have at the 5/4 spots.
