Dawson given two-year contract extension Associated Press HOUSTON - Houston Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson received a two-year contract extension Monday. Dawson is in his 24th year with the Rockets and his eighth as general manager. "He has always put the Rockets first and we are thrilled to extend his contract for two more years," owner Les Alexander told Houston television station KRIV. Monetary terms of the contract were not disclosed.
His contract would have run out in November 2003 sometime according to Mark Berman on Fox26 Sports last night.
So he's signed for this season and next... not a ringing endorsement. Understandable, however, considering the last few years.
i take this as les' way of telling everyone that they are on a short leash....that they will be held accountable for their actions.
Yeah, that's a nice, subtle way of telling Dawson to quit adding stiffs like Mo Taylor, Glen Rice, Moochie Norris, etc.
From today's Chronicle: Dawson in place The Rockets announced on Tuesday that general manager Carroll Dawson signed a two-year contract extension last summer. Dawson did not want to comment about the move, but Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said he considered Dawson's place with the team to be one of his motivations for taking the coaching job with the Rockets. "I don't think there's any doubt ownership, your direct boss and your best players you coach are the reasons you take a job or don't take a job," Van Gundy said. "Those factors are extremely important." My first reaction: Why would they announce it on Tuesday if they signed the extension LAST SUMMER? Answer: because Mark Berman announced it on Monday. So: (1) When, if ever, would they have announced it had Berman not broken this story? (2) Why the secrecy? Why not announce it over the summer?
