Hi all. I created a post a couple of months ago about my wife and I moving to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (http://thebishkekadventure.blogspot.com )to teach at a US Embassy school.

Well we are here... an amazing country and amazing people. And as fate would have it... I have formed a club basketball team (boys - ages 13 to 18). We will play local Russian School teams and travel to a couple of tournament in Almaty, Kazakhstan and Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

And wouldn't you know... our name is the Bishkek Rockets!

Since many of the kids on my team or locals or students at the christian missionary school... their funds are a little bit tight. So far... I have been paying for the use of a gym (there are only a couple in town and each charges about $20 an hour... they are very old, soviet style gyms... a real trip!) myself which hasn't been a problem.

But I am hoping to get some sponsorships for our team in order for us to be able to by jerseys and travel to tournaments.

So I guess in some ways... this is one of those "emails from a stranger in a foreign land asking for money".

I don't have an account or anything set up back in the states... this is a very early and perfunctory post... just hoping that folks might be interested in helping out or pointing me in the right direction with folks from the Rockets or the NBA who might help.

    Come on... the Bishkek Rockets!

Thanks and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Its not a bad idea to support kids. Why don't you set up a pay pal type account and write up some human intrest stuff to move people to donate a couple bucks.

You can set up a webpage with all the info about your team/organization and put a paypal donation box at the bottom. Goodluck.

I've visited your blog a couple of times, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in reading about different cultures or what it's like to be an expatriate.

    Keep up the good work!
