Hmm... Now admittedly, I have not lived in Houston since 1997. But back in the championship era, it seemed that the Rockets got a glut of bad press for crunching toes and not fostering trustworthy relationships with local businesses. I remember Jim Mack being pissed off about some things, local sponsors saying that Les and Co. were unreasonable and arrogant, charities complaining of being used/neglected/exploited and so forth. I recall just about zero local businesses and charities supporting the Rockets during their first run at a new arena, most notably. My question for local Houstonians is: Are there any indications that this has changed? I mean, the Rockets are not going anywhere, of course, but there is no one at the games, thats for damn sure. Is corporate support for the Rocks any better? Is sort of thing in part responsible for lukewarm local support? Just wondering. Please discuss and inform. CBFC ps. And I don't consider "the Rockets do so much for this community how could you say that" to be discussion. Yes, they do alot for the community -- they freaking should -- but they also know how to piss people off, and perception is pretty much reality in the world of sponsorships. Yes, Les takes good care of alot of people -- and animals, good work, co-vegetarian -- but the issue of trust in the local business/chairty community is a different box-of-whatever-analogy-i-am-currently-blanking-on alltogether.
