I remember the year we got our new jerseys, there was much talk about the alternate jersey. I remember the Rockets marketing director at the time would even come in here and chime in on them, but I believe the next season or so we got a new marketing director. Sadly, I forgot his name, but Im sure someone on here is bound to remember or can clarify some of this. I remember him stating the NBA's rule was that we had to wait 3 seasons before we were allowed to have alternate jerseys, since we just got new jerseys, we were not allowed alternates. Anyways, it was said that they were in the works, and the Rockets wanted black/red, although the league was strongly against a team with another black alternate (perhaps a reason why it never happened?). Also, I believe the marketing director said that the alternates would most likely have 'HOUSTON' on them, and not 'ROCKETS' since alternates are often worn on the road during long road trips to save laundry time. Also I think initially some fans were upset, our road jerseys did not say 'HOUSTON' and this pushed the idea a bit. Slowly but surely, the talks over the years slowed, and now the black alternate is just a myth.
I don't know which thread it is, but the best looking jersey's are the one's that were created when Tmac was dunking in mid air and it had the big "R" across the top of the jersey
Well, it is HIGHLY unlikely that we would get new alternate black jerseys when this year's theme/motto is "GET RED!" Just doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me. If the league won't approve of a black jersey, then I don't think there should be an alternate jersey. (Although I bet Orlando and Sacramento will be approved of a black alternate jersey. A yellow jersey with red trim would be too bright; plus yellow isn't part of our colors anymore (which I think is stupid, considering we had our best years with the ketchup and mustard jerseys). A gray with red trim would just be 10 times worse than the ones we have right now. A gray with black trim would be would be cool, but to similar to the Spurs alternates. We could do what cleveland did and make blue a part of our colors out of nowhere, and make a new better looking jersey like they did. Their red jerseys arent great, so they just added a color and made an okay looking road uni which they use a lot. Or we should add black or yellow as a color and replace gray, add Houston to the road uniforms (replacing Rockets), and make our alternate jersey a black one. Maybe touching up the logo a little bit wouldn't hurt either.

i second gray/red alternate jerseys. if it's made out of the same materials as it is now it would be silver

I wonder what a black jersey with white letters and little rings around the shoulder and red lining would look like. Since I hear people say the black and red combination would be hard on the eyes. Speaking of rings, is that why there are two rings around the arms on the jerseys and shorts? To pay tribute to our past? The back to back championship teams? Hmmm... makes you wonder
thx for posting that. Good work!! as artest fakes in the air.......SCORE!!!!!!!!! The Rockets are the 2009 NBA champions
The Raptors unveiled their black alternates a few days. Why cant we do the same? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psMFm-KtW8c&feature=user
