Sorry, this is off-topic. But in the Dish forum someone posted (maybe it was a joke) that the Nugs were going to bring out their old jerseys for a few games. This would probably be better coordinated by the NBA, but I think it would absolutely rock if the Rocks had a "retro" game or two where the players donned the old red and gold jerseys, preferably where the opposing team also went retro. You could even sell special-edition "classic" jerseys (i.e. - red and gold Francis, Mobley jerseys).
Pre, Halftime and Post should be ALL FRAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with maybe a little bit of the Mullet-man Dale Robertson!!!!
Actually, I think this may happen. This is not a Rockets thing, it is an NBA thing and I know that the league has talked about building on the success of the various retro nights around the country last year. The Rockets would, no doubt, be part of that. Anything to push more clothing on people! There has even been talk, I believe, of a San Diego Rockets night with the OLD OLD green and gold.
San Diego Rockets ? daaang thats reeal old.. kinda like last year with the MLPS Lakers jerseys. I hope we get to bring back the classic jerseys. cause i like the bullets and sixers jerseys too... o yea back to the topic.. i really dont like that fannie mae stuff..its boring
How about a recurring segment showing the first time a new Rocket gets to meet Calvin Murphy? Calvin, being the... unique... person he is will certainly make an impression. I think the "Who the fsck is this guy?" look on the new guy's face would be priceless.
I think they need guys in the booth that have been following basketball all their lives. Reason: they will add interesting comments like baseball announcers do, but won't make a big fuss over it. Also, I think Cuttino needs to be interviewed more often because he has that Charles Barkley mentality of always having something to say. The more they interview him, the better he will get. Charles was just arrogant in the beginning, just like Cat. A media savey guy like Cat is exactly what they need.
ESPN didn't patent the TV reality show... why can't Fox Sports SW do their own show similar to what they did with the Clippers, but for the Rockets?? Ming's transition to the USA should be very interesting, Steve and Cuttino are a riot... I busted a GUT when they showed up at the Ferrari dealership in sweats Moochie is insane and entertaining to say the least... I think it would be better than the ESPN show. I watched, and I'm definately not a Clippers fan... Not sure how much of a distraction to the team it would be... That should be a concern, but I think another season of empty seats would hurt the team more... screaming fans work wonders for defensive intensity!
Pre-game: Show how all our different lineups should match up with the opposition, not just separating starting 5 v. starting 5 and bench v. bench.
After attending the first Rockets Fan Council meeting last night, I think that it is safe to say that most people are concerned with filling the seats. For that cause, fans gave ideas about marketing the product, helping to promote ticket sells, etc. I've also heard that some people (if not some communities) in Houston feel disconnected from the team. For this reason, I disagree with Tozai, that we should eliminate community service spotlights at halftime. Should the goal be to make this an NBC halftime show. If so, just say that, and the broadcast people for the Rockets can approach it that way, as they have many examples of that. But NBC is not trying to sell tickets and fill seats. In fact, you don't make their broadcasts if you don't sell tickets, pretty much. I would like to see the halftime shows make even more use of spotlighting the Rockets with the Community. I would also like to see the halftime shows interview the Community-based Groups who are at that particular home game, and maybe spotlighting them, with a 30-60sec background documentary before showing them live in the stadium. For instance, last year a huge group of Turkey fans game to see Turkoglu. It must have been over 200 people, with great chants. The buzz at halftime on the concourse at the Summit was to know who they were. When you give Groups the spotlight, maybe other groups will say, "hey, lets get tickets too, that is sooooo cool." Fans love the spotlight.
Pre-show: Like in "Inside Stuff" some Rocket players should give a work out tip, or basketball move tip. Halftime: Run something like the "Real World" where the cameras follow a player around. Just to see how it is to be a professional player for just a few minutes. PostShow: Lisa should show the top 5 plays of the game. Have the usual interview with the players of the game. Show highlights of other NBA games. Then maybe end the show with a music video mix with some of the Rockets plays of the game. And is there a way you guys could show all the games on local television.
How about the "Man on the street" concept Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes, Arsenio Hall, Jimmy Kimmel, Jay Mohr... all these guys have integrated the "MOS" into various sports programming. Our guy/girl could go into local establishments (bars, basketball courts, convalescent homes, churches, schools, funeral parlors etc.) and conduct obscure interviews with fans. host ideas... www.coolcomedy.net
That honestly is a brilliant idea AB! If the people who wanted ideas for the TV Broadcast are reading these posts, this is the an idea for a segment that would be a HUGE hit. I wonder when we are officially going to find out which local TV station is going to air the games? Another Brother, I would pitch this idea to the programming folks because this is an excellent idea & there is no doubt in my mind that you could execute this to perfection as the "Rockets man on the street". Peace.
Another idea. Get DirectTV to actually show the pre- and post-game shows on League Pass. They don't currently and I have no other way to watch this stuff
That is great to hear, so WE ALL assume you will MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!! I think as you can tell by the response that the majority of us are not too pleased with the current production (home or road games).
I would watch B's show, becasue that is pretty much exactly what I want. I like x and os. I like knowing about the specifics of this match up. And I like to know the changing dynamic. I can't stand anything about fuzzy bears, Calvin's cookies, how sweet some old lady is or that type of stuff. Please focus on the game , not the personalaties, cities, players, cheerleaders (photos acceptable - career goals no) travel schedule, etc. Please stick to the game. Why is this game different from the last and the next. By the way, what's with Calvin and Bill. I honestly think Bill is embarassed by Calvin's antics. He must really need the money to put up with that. They start to bicker like an old married couple. I can get that at home. I tune in the game to tune that out. I respect Calvin's basketball knowledge, but I would enjoy the broadcast much more if he was gone. I get the dish and I am so happy when we have the other announcers.
