My understanding is that he wasn't fired at all, but was viewed as more valuable for Obama's reelection campaign (which has already started) outside the West Wing, rather than in it.
Call it what you want, but he was fired from that position. White House Press secretaries are often replaced at midterms and he we a sure bet to be replaced.
Personally, I prefer Gibbs to the likely replacement, Bill Burton. Burton rubs me the wrong way every time he opens his mouth. IMO Burton will throttle any attempt at bipartisanship, which would be fragile under any circumstance. MSNBC will adore him.
There are plenty of people on here who will try to argue that you can't raise taxes by 3% on people making 2-3X that because in D.C. it's practically minimum wage.
He rubbed me the wrong way more often than I'd like, but I'm guessing a lot of that is inherent or at least institutionalized within the position of press secretary so I'm not sure I'd really like anybody else any better.
yeah, it's pretty much a thankless job. I just think Gibbs is handled it better than a lot of other people have, but he wasn't without his mistakes.
so, i'm impressed by how quickly The Once has eliminated the income gap- $174k is "relatively modest" for an individual taxpayer, yet $250k is "rich" for a couple.
I agree with FB that while he had moments he'd probably rather forget (him and his boss, no doubt), I found Gibbs to be much better than some other people that have held that position for previous presidents.
