    Houston's next major economic district

The WaterLights District is the Greater Houston, Texas area's next major economic district.

WaterLights is a $600 million, 1.9 million square foot, next generation planned, urban development located only 15 minutes from the world's largest medical and research center and Downtown Houston. The development will feature residential condos, brownstones, luxury apartments, office buildings, retail boutiques, a fresh market, 10 restaurants, two luxury hotels, conference facility, a water wall and public park along a Grand Canal waterway. The entire community is pedestrian-friendly featuring walkable, environmentally friendly, sustainable, healthier, technologically advanced features to enhance quality of life.

Anyways...you can vote for what restaurants you want built in this district here: http://www.waterlightsdistrict.com/

I heard this joke from a caller on 1560 today, but why is it that for real estate people everything is 15 minutes from downtown?

Just dig out the riverwalk, wait 5 days, and it will be full of awezome acidic rain water, then proceed to add baby blue dye.

If you haven't walked downtown on Buffalo Bayou lately around Sabine Street and the surrounding areas, you should. It's really beautiful down there. The Buffalo Bayou Partnership has done an amazing job and there are tons of plans to both add amenities - like the new skate park that opens soon (the largest publically owned skate park in the US) - and flood control measures as well as wildlife habitat by 2020.

I've done some work with them and I'm amazed at how organized they are and how many things are already in the works.

The artist who has done all those (there are a few right on the I-10/45 interchange) is closing down his studio that is right behind the Target off I-10 and Taylor. He did the giant Beatles statues and all those presidents you see in Pearland.

yeah, the master plan that the buffalo bayou partnership has is pretty impressive... here's hoping they have the menas to get it all done, because it will really give a huge boost to a much neglected part of our city

    that's the easy part.

When I saw the thread title, I was wondering if this was it. Needless to say, Hwy 288 near Pearland is exploding with growth.

What's the time frame of this project?

I bet the WaterLights in Pearland will be a lot better than the Riverwalk in San Antonio's. God, the Riverwalk sucks and smells. Seriously.

Sounds cool. I hope they don't fill it with cliched restaurants. Some originality and uniqueness would be nice.

its in new pearland, i pass by the presidents heads, so it will be a reality. however, after seeing it take all of eternity to get that Bass Pro shop open, who knows how long it will take them...
