I have been watching the news and they are talking about this inmate in the Harris County Jail who's been accused of killing a sheriff. The family of the victim have petitioned and been granted to stop the inmate from receiving money on his inmate account so he will not be able to purchase anything from what is known as commissary. Basically you get a list of items that the county allows you to purchase from them such as food which is constantly mentioned in the media. But you can also purchase some basic necessities like underwear, socks and toiletries. You mean to tell me that because someone is accused of killing a police officer they are denied their basic rights as an inmate? So, I guess the people that are in there for molesting children can have their rights and purchase candy and sodas even ice cream like the ones in there for whatever else...And because this involves one of "their own" he is supposed to be treated as an outcast or something. Give me a break.
What is up with Texas and those in power i.e. judges doing whatever the hell they want to people and getting away with it. I understand the whole be tough on crime thing and the victims family should be upset I know I would be too. But to go this far to say hey you can't do this or you can't buy that because your case involves an officer of the law is just an atrocity. It's just like Ted Poe making people walk around with signs as a form of punishment for their crime. They make their own punishments now or what? Where does it say you can get 5 to 10 years in prison or you could be put on probation and well, its up to the judge what kind of punishment you are going to get...whether it be washing his Mercedes Benz for several months or stand in the middle of an intersection with a sign telling the world what a piece of crap you are.
It doesn't really matter that these people have stopped the inmate from receiving money to purchase things. All he has to do is tell whoever is going to put money on his books to put them on one of his cellmate’s books and the cell mate can order things for him. Freaking Idiots...How's that! We are slowly giving up all our rights in this nation. Hey how about we let the police beat your a** and make you tell them whatever they want to hear instead of letting you have the right to remain silent. Some people don't realize that although everyone is for letting them do as they like to protect us, but who is going to protect us from them?

If the worst that happens to a copkiller is that he can't buy ice cream, he is a very lucky inmate. I would be much more concerned with being beaten to death by the guards, or cops that the guards let in.
