I think it is highly doubtful that we could make a move for Tejada. The Astros already have a lot of money invested and I don't see Drayton paying for a roster that cost over $90 million.

I would give up Lidge/Qualls, Everett, & Lane. With Preston Wilson, Lane is expendable. Tejada makes Everett expendable without question. I would give up any of the minor league pitchers, just one though if we have to give up Lidge or Qualls.

Tejada is likely taking performance-enhancing drugs, he sucked in the last third of the season or so this past season (at least in comparison to his earlier numbers).

If we get him, he will be our Giambi.

OK, OK, I am just babbling here, but I would love it if the Astros did NOT give up prospects for this guy that will hurt us down the line. Pitching IS what got us there in the first place, and I wouldn't trade pitching prospects for Tejada, especially since Clemens and likely others won't be around a year or two from now and we will need young pitchers on board.

I just don't want Tejada, sounds like trouble to me...

Lidge, Lane or Taveras (depending on whether they want power or speed), Everett, and a prospect. I'd do it.

This is one of those moves you have to make just because it just might put you over the hump.

What will put us over the top is after we make this trade and then Clemens signs in May and starts pitching in June.

this post should be read again....

the only way i give up lidge is if it's by himself or with everett.

i'd offer taveras or lane, qualls, and everett.

Taveras is a guy I like and having him at the top of the order for these big guns that we want to drive in runs is important. I would like to see any kind of deal without Taveras to be honest with yall.

    From today's Boston Herald

    http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=119987&format=text

According to sources, at least two teams have offered the Orioles a more attractive package than the current Ramirez and Clement offer the Red Sox have been dangling. Further, according to one executive, the list of possible Tejada bidders has grown to six, with the Cubs, White Sox, Astros, Angels and, most recently, the Tigers also expressing interest in a trade.

CAN'T be a better offer out there talent wise. That's a 15 game winner to a team short on pitching, as well as pretty much the best offensive player in baseball (arguably). Unless the Cubs threw Ramirez or Lee into the Prior package or the Angels offered Gurrero (um, all NOT happening, of course), there's not an offer that can beat Manny/Clement.

What are the other factors? Salery? Out-of-division trade partner? Anyone else?

As an AL East fan, I'll tell you white there are better offers to be had. Manny is an absolute headcase. He may be a great offensive player, but that's only when he tries. Also, Clement is a mental patient. He broke down mentally for the Red Sox last year and got killed.
