Is it me or did a safety prospect get more carries than the guy who will probably take over after Cedric and Selvin graduate? I think that, if given the chance, Ramonce could have a significant impact on this season.
From what I've read, Sweed, Carter and Enard all sat out this game. So while I agree that the WR's looked like crap, it's probably because 3 of our top 4 didn't even play. I was curious myself why Nate Jones (#9) kept getting passes thrown his way. That's good news on Rod Wright, although high ankle sprains aren't good at all. Maybe we rest him vs. Baylor, get some young DT's some time, and bring him back for OU. Good call on the Ramonce Taylor thing vs. OU. Yeah, I could see him not getting a carry at all vs. the Sooners if the past is an indicator. I'm hoping we don't need to see him, and at this point, he probably won't have enough carries anyway for the staff to be comfortable throwing him in there. Beyond carrying the ball, the pass protection would worry me. You don't want OU "knowing" that we are going to run the ball every time Taylor is in the game. So we'll see how it plays out. All in all, the score wasn't indicative of the actual game. But hey, I'll take the W. Teams like Georgia, USC and LSU are struggling week to week getting wins over inferior opponents, so as they say in the NCAA tourney..."Survive and advance."
Umm, did you not see the INT touchdown return called back for a roughing the passer call? Did you not see your kicker make a touchdown saving tackle on a near kickoff return for a touchdown? Did you not see another TD get called back for a illegal procedure penalty? This score could have been 35-30 without using too much imagination.
I also did not see the point where Rice figured out how to stop Cedric Benson. And I do think it's kind of funny that your "what if..." scenarios still have Rice losing.
I'm not saying we should have won the game. We got beat by a better team. That's not hard to see. But you must admit we did blow some easy chances to score due to preventable penalties. I will take issue with the person who claims the score wasn't reflective of the game played.
Did you not SEE the second half? Benson carried the ball twice in the entire second half because Texas didn't need him to run anymore. Guess who threw that INT for a td that was called back? Right, you guessed it, the QB who was in the game because Texas was calling off the dogs. And if you want to play IMAGINARY/ WHAT IF games, Texas had a ball picked off in their end zone that could've gone for a TD or FG. So, you're correct- if penalties don't really count in the outcome of a game, if second halves don't count in the outcome of a game, if everything that went bad for Rice went good, and everything that went good for Texas went bad, it might've been 35-30 Texas. Congrats- take your moral victory and your actual Loss and go on your merry way. To say the score was indicative of the game, or to say that Rice had a chance of being in this game is laughable. Yeah, it was 28-6, but Rice was mounting this AMAZING comeback...that everyone is still waiting to see. Freaking roll eyes were made for posts like yours....
Glad you're so worked up about it. Whatever. You're wrong, by the way. Rice had their second team in as well.
I think this post *perfectly* reflects the frustration shared by so many Longhorn fans who know that their team is not playing well enough right now to beat Oklahoma.
Does any Longhorn fan actually think UT can beat OU this year? Like I posted earlier, everyone I know or I meet thinks we're going to get run out of the Cotton Bowl and is hoping the Tobacco Road Conman sets up shop elsewhere. The Mack Brown supporters must be an endangered species found on the internet.
Hmmm.....I don't recall ever thinking about or mentioning Oklahoma in my post. I was talking about Rice. I just simply disagreed that the game was ever in question, or could be. Bigtexxx disagreed, which is great. What fun would a message board be if we all agreed on everything? What he didn't do, which I truly appreciate, is put words in my mouth. I never mentioned OU, but if you want me to, I'll tell you that I don't think we'll win. Do we have a chance? Well, I'd like to think if Texas plays a near perfect game and OU doesn't, then they have a chance. The better team does not always win, which is what makes college football great. You only have to beat a team once on a given day typically, which is exactly why you probably watched the Rice-Texas game. If we did or do have a chance, I think the loss of Selvin Young really hurts us in a game like that. Texas needs a player who can deliver a big play on special teams and spell Cedric with some quality play. I just don't rationally see how the Sooners will lose to Texas, but eventually they will, and of course I'll watch the game to see if this is the year. So, I never mentioned OU, I talked about Rice and Texas. But thanks for your ASSumptions.
He wasn't assuming anything. It was a blatant attempt to obfuscate and divert attention from the real issue at hand. His team got stomped again. Not really that important an issue, since Rice will continue to be an elite school in the much more important topic of academics. Yet some still feel embarrassed and belittled by the poor performance of their football team. Go figure. Just like UT/OU. OU will probably win again, but how many would really prefer to go to Norman and OU over Austin and UT?
