This is against Rice remember? Im not taking that much away from him but you can't really back up his skill against a team like Rice.
Gonna be a tough game vs OU without Rod Wright. Looks like Rice can't compete at this level. Not a good game for the Owls.
Jebus - Not really knocking them as a team saying they are bad or anything but their defense is not up there in the ranks of other teams and for Benson to put up runs like that is not uncommon with a weaker defense.
Eh, Rice played quite respectably in the second half. 2nd half score was 7-7, should have been 14-7 Rice if the late hit wasn't called on Rice when they took the INT to the house. The first half was another story, however. Rice covers the spread pretty easily.
Did they make an anouncement about the injury or are you just speculating? As a UT fan, I will say that it is going to be next to impossible to beat OU without Wright, he's that good in the middle
Ouch, what happened to Wright? I stopped watching about halfway through the 2nd. Sometimes, dinner with your niece on her birthday is more important. Sometimes.
Nice first quarter, besides that...not great. Season's over if Rod's out. I'd say he's just as pivotal to the defense as DJ.
Who's the OU player that got kicked off the team? Brian Jones said on FSSW that Wright's just as important to UT has he was to OU. BTW, Brian Jones is surprisingly good on FSSW. Very surprising.
well that was the ugliest post first quarter experience at a home game i can ever remember, including the 27-0 north texas game. we decide to "work on the pass game" and go away from the unstoppable rushing attack. that might be ok if greg davis didn't draw up the most dumbass pass plays in history and if we didn't pass on every ****ing down. work on the pass, not do it every single time so they never have to guess what's coming. how many overthrows to double covered guys did we have? we got pick sixed and only luckily got it taken back. nice to put ramonce in so he could watch chance throw instead of getting him some carries. we essentially put in an anti-game plan in the second half and the problem is i think greg davis was trying. mack must've had rice and the points or something. benson continues to chew up yardage, another 180+ yard night, with only 20 carries. he could've had 250 easy and would've had 200 except we seemed to purposely run every play we could think of besides giving him the ball in the 3rd quarter. we continue to not let him get the TD's. matthews was crushing people when he ran the ball. david thomas, after a bone-jarring block from tony, just lowers his shoulder to get knock a rice defender away at the 10 on his way to the endzone. vince looked quite nice on all but one pass, and that was one of the worst decisions and throws i've ever seen (the endzone INT). the D went from sloppy on the first drive to stifling the rest of the game, until the second string got in and gave up a 44 yd TD (i guess if our D is 3 points worse than UH's we can expect ou to hang 66 on us this year). at least our running game continues to impress while passing doesn't look good when we force it instead of doing it off of the run. **** greg davis and i can't believe we didn't cover the spread when it could've been done easily.
dustin dvoracek got kicked off recently so assuming someone else didn't that's him. i can't say i know how good he is but i'm pretty sure he was starting so he must've been pretty important.
This game was vaguely reminescent of games in years past that were harbingers of future failure. Also, Ramonce Taylor had like three carries - if he's going to backup Cedric, wouldn't it be wise to be getting him a dozen or more carries in garbage time so that when he spells Cedric he's not completely unprepared. Maybe? Ya Think? Offensive line starters looked good, and Derek Johnson was absolutely dangerous out there. Without Rod, we're hurt - but not done. Okam isn't as good yet - but he's got incredible talent and athletic ability. He can have an impact like Rod Wright did as a freshman, if he's hurt for any length of time. Besides, the key to OU is going to be our defensive ends and secondary.
Matthews got too many carries for my liking playing tailback. Saying Mock looked horrible is an understatement. Did any WR's impress you? Good to see the TE's used. Defense looked good but it's only Rice.
Our wideouts look bad. OU will probably be able to negate them with single coverage, bring the safety over the top of the TE, and the other comes up to stuff the run. Bad things. Does anyone else think that the use of Matthews at TB is going to repeat itself against OU - and Taylor won't see a snap?
According to the assholes at Fox Sports, who made us watch the end of the Tech game and 8 trillion commercials before switching to the UT game: x-rays were negative. Wright has a slight high ankle sprain and may be back this week Thank goodness!
Yes, just like Cedric and Selvin in their freshmen years. But I kind of like Matthews playing as a single back, could be a nice change of pace to Benson.
Matthews will get torn up by OU. I like giving the FB the ball every now and then but using him exclusively to spell Benson....I dunno about that. I'd rather see what Taylor can do. btw, what happened to Ahmard Hall? Everyone who is not 100% should sit against Baylor.
even though it's Derrick (after a whole life of having people spell my name Derrick instead of Derek it's nice to see the reverse once in a while) dude is such a beast he still never ceases too impress even after all these years. flying over guys to bat down passes, forcing fumbles, crushing people on tackles. that play where he tackled the qb, i think in the second half, the replay of that was great. they showed it from behind the play so you just see the quarterback running along the line of scrimmage and then all of a sudden you see DJ just come flying around the corner and you just have to know the qb was thinking "oh crap" or "hopefully that says 31 and not 11" as he saw #11 just come flying around the corner to deliver the hit. i wouldn't wanna be holding the football with derrick johnson in the vicinity.
