Saw the movie last night. I came in with high expectations and was somewhat let down. It was a good movie. I'd recommend it to friends. But it had weaknesses that I have trouble getting past. Mainly, my complaint is that they didn't make a single story of the whole thing -- it's 3 stories with only a feeble connection one to another. The other problems (like being somewhat weak on character development, surprising boneheadedness or slow-footedness from the antagonists, and illogical developments) I easily forgive for the genre. But, trying to pass off 3 episodes as one movie won't work (actually, it did work for Pulp Fiction, but it didn't here). However, the comic-book atmosphere (from the cinematography, the acting, the story, the characters and so on) was done so expertly that the movie was still well worth seeing (and, on the big screen too). As I've seen some folks complain, the movie was style over substance -- but that's really what the aim was in the first place. PS: don't take a 13 year old. Let him sneak into it with his friends like 13 year olds are supposed to.
Well, if you look at it as a single narrative, then yeah, it doesn't work too well. But originally, these were 3 seperate stories. They just happen to have a little connection via the sleazy cantina. Don't think of it as a movie, think of it as 3 vignettes.
watched it today. Visually, it was stunning. Great movie overall though. Devon Aoki should get some props as she was a badass. Mickey Rourke deserves all the props possible, simply amazing. OMG, also, Elijah Wood, dear god, that must be one powerful Ring he got. Still a good flick. EDIT: What part was Nick Katt's scene? I knew he was in it, but not sure which character exactly he was. Was he the one sent to kill Bruce Willis that look like a wrestler?? EDIT: n/m i feel dumb, i just had to read RM95's comment like 3-5 times to figure it out....
Katt was the guy with the swastika on his forehead who gets arrowed by Miho (Devon Aoki), but keeps standing and talking until she puts one through his head.
Did anyone ever buy the latest dvd that was supposed to have all of the extras the first release didn't have?
yes i have it, its more a collectible than anything. Nice comic book that came with it. The extended scenes give the movie a "tighter" feel if you know what i mean.
