So far, easily. But we still have some killers coming out this summer with Star Wars, Batman, and WotW.

    SPOILER
For anybody who's seen it; when Bruce takes that Yellow b*stard's "weapon" away, was there a collective wince from all the guys in the audience?

    Sin City sucked ass.

I went in with no real expectations other than it being a good movie, was in a good mood and had some nice munchies. But the movie was just a big time bomb. The Bruce Willis/Alba arc was good, but the middle stories, which was most of the freaking movie, were just godawful. They were unappealing enough that my wife dozed off for apparently 30 minutes or so, cuz she didn't even remember the story that featured the prostitutes.

Horrrible. I'm just flat out disgusted with the movie right now.

that's what i'm afraid of with Sin City. I've read all 4 comics way before I went to go see this movie. This movie is 100% faithfully translated from the comics and in turn I think it was pretty good. It gets a B- in my book.

If you haven't read any of the comics it might suck to you which isn't an insult to CriscoKidd because I sat there and thought 'man this **** is cool! but man i would hate to sit here and now have read the comics. i'd find this movie boring and too gratuitous'

This movie made Kill Bill look trite and amateurish.

I dont get how you couldnt like it?!

I hate all that comic book crap and had no pre-conceived notions of what this story "should" look like.

How can you not even appreciate the cinematography?! Each and every shot was carefully thought out (or matched with the comic book I guess>?) The costumes and scenes were perfect. the movie itself was beautiful?!

WOW, thats amazing you think it TOTALLY sucked?!

Are you freakin' blind or do you just have terrible taste?!!!!":D

How anyone could fall asleep through this movie is just unfathomable to me. I enjoyed every damn second. It was just one huge adrenalline rush.

Saw it first showing here in Savannah. And of course the theather was peppered with all the fan boys, LOL.

Great movie! And I especially loved the Marv story.

And yes, the theater growned when YB's other weapon was taken away!

BTW, those that love the movie will love this. According to the RR the DVD Director's cut will have the movie as 3 DVDs where each of the 3 story archs are on their own DVD with as much as 15-20 extra minutes added to each story that had to be cut out of this movie. I am really pumped for that!

The only complaint I will have with the movie is I wanted to see more "backstory" on the 3 lead guys, especially Marv!

    The B&W treatment was awesome!

not really sure how the two can be compared. both seem kinda eye-catchy... or arsty or something, but one is more dick traceyish and the other is more japanimationish (by the way, not really comparing sc to dt... just the whole comic strip effect).

    both were bad arse movies.

The story writing and development between the two is just lightyears apart.

Kill Bill was "cool". Sin City was amazing.

FYI - I did not get to do the meeting with him after all, I did meet him at the party later that night but I gave the game to our Swedish studio, so I will not be in direct contact with him.

So I'm supposed to like it because it looks pretty? And costumes? lol, more like "everyone semi-important that isn't a slut wear a trenchcoat that blows in the wind". Not that I mind too much, but the trenchcoat thing is played out.

    The bad dialogue, the over-the-top-scenes-that-were-supposed-to-look-cool-or-dramatic-but-were-lame,
and the whole prostitute story arc were what got to me.

    ***SPOILER RANT ON***

I mean when that 3rd lead guy jumped out the window, wtf was that? It might look cool in a comic, but on the screen - I couldn't stop laughing cuz it looked so stupid. And Britney Murphy lifelessly cooing after him while he jumped ugh, she was doing pretty good up til that point. The prostitutes firing the guns looked stupid. Rosario was horrible, as was the 3rd main lead. Marv got on my nerves. "Look I'm tough, I'm going to try and prove it to you each and every single scene. Don't worry, I can get out of every single predicament with a breeze of bravado. I'm going to talk about how crazy I am too, even though nothing comes of it, it's something I can repeatedly bring up." I had a mini-celebration when he finally died, but he ruined even that, and I had to wonder whether he was going to actually come back during the movie and bring it down even more. Whoever played Goldie/wendy did a bad job of it as well. She was more of a mannequin(sp?) than anything else. All the bad guys were incredibly anti-climactic(as was the whole film really). Michael Clark Duncan, wtf? A legit toughguy and all he did was stand around trying to look cool but coming off as a puss with a lame costume. The beginning and ending scenes were pretty pointless as well, but that's minor. There's other things, but meh.

Of the things I liked - the Willis/Alba arc was good, but not great. Torro did a pretty good job. Some of the visual imagery was cool(but was more than offset by the parts that were horrible).

All in all just a cool looking turd, which is what I guess I should come to expect from Robert Rodriguez movies.

    *** SPOILER RANT OFF****

Even though I haven't read them, I can see from the movie how it could be a kickass comic book. Personally I'm not a big fan of putting more stock in being faithful to the source material as opposed to just using the source material to make a good movie. As long as the main elements of the story aren't changed, I couldn't care less.

First, no it's not better than Kill Bill, it's different and incomparable.

Second, it's one of the best movies I've ever seen and I loved every moment of it. Want to see a sequel, a prequel and a TV series from this movie.

I had blamed Tarantino for that, but okay. I am willing to spread the blame around.

Tarantino is billed as "Guest Director" in the opening credits.

All comic book movies have been adaptations. This is the first time anybody has completely translated a book to the screen. Because it's a fantasy world, all the crazy impossible stuff works. I do admit the slow motion fall was kind of silly, and in the comic there's no reference as to how high up that ledge is that he jumps from.

Just saw this yesterday. It was so bad, a friend of mine turned to me 1/3 of the way through the movie and said with a total straight face, "I hate this movie." You know a movie is pretty bad when the best-acted role comes from Jessica freaking Alba. As CK said, "All in all just a cool looking turd."

NOTE: I have never read any of the Sin City comics, nor am I a comics guy in general.

It's funny you say that. I've seen a lot of reviews that give it an A, but also some that give it an F. I haven't seen it yet but it seems like one of those movies that you'll either love or hate.
