Alright, so I finally got the GBA movie player (http://www.movieadvance.com ) I ordered off Ebay a couple weeks ago, and there was some interest on this board so I figured Id let you know how it is.

This little gadget is totally worth the 25 bucks i paid for it. Its pretty easy to use, with an operating system already in place and data conversion software on an accompanying cd. All you have to do is convert the files to the format for the OS to read it and drag/drop to your compactflash card.

Music converting is quick and painless; video conversion is pretty time consuming. I havent really had a chance to play around with the software that much, but it looks to me that it converts in realtime (as fast as the movie plays). With everything you convert, you can choose what quality to convert it to, so if you have a large CF card you can have high-res video, but if you have a smaller CF card you can still have video.

This product is working out well for me because I already have a GBA and several large CF cards for my digital camera, so overall this only cost me 25. For anyone looking to turn their GBA/DS into a PSP wannabe (like me), this is great. Also, you can download tons of movies at different GBA movie player sites (although most of them have chinese subtitles).

Overall, very nifty little device thatd be worth it for anyone who doesnt have to buy another CF card.

This is interesting. I got my son a Nintendo DS for Christmas, and it would be nice to download a movie for him when he is here.

Unfortunately, I'm illiterate with computers. If you get this, how hard is it to download a movie?

Getting movies is pretty easy at this one site i found (http://www.gbafilm.com/download/down.asp). The only problem with this, as most of the sites I found, is that alot of the movies are Chinese, and most of the American ones have Chinese subtitles. The good thing about this site is that all of the movies are already in the right file format, so all you have to do is download and put on the CF card.

So you buy a CF card, and you can download a movie? That's cool!

How much are CF cards? How many movies are there, and hoe recent are they? ( not that that matters. I'd love to get "Pete's Dragon, if I could)

What does it cost to download movies?

Damn, you got yours already??? Lucky b*stard.... ;)

I won mine off of Ebay like June 2 and I still havent got it yet. :( I should be getting it anyday now.

As far as converting, I already downloaded the software off of their website, and as stated, the video are time consuming. I have converted a bunch of Rockets vids, Tmac Comeback, Dunk on Bradley, Yao's behind the back vs. the Blazers, and all of them look nice in its size on the PC at least. A movie would take a bit more. I have a screener of Unleashed and I left that thing converting over night, and 5 and 1/2 hours later, it was still converting :( in which probably had a maybe 20-30 mins left. I also converted a family guy episode in which took about 1-2 hours.

As for the Compact flash, I bought me a 512MB one from Fry's this past weekend $35 - $15 rebate for $20. One Gigs are pretty cheap too if you dont mind rebates, at around $40-$50.

As soon as I get mine, I'll post my own review here also.

Also, txhiggs, did you get a chance to try a NES Rom on it yet? I am wondering how that works.

EDIT: Here is the orginal thread I started about this thing:

No I havent, but it seems really easy, i think you can just download one from the site i posted earlier and drag/drop. Theres no organizing or formatting of your CF card to do since the operating system is in the movie player adapter itself.

On a side note, i won mine on may 31, it was shipped on june 1, and arrived on june 11, if you wanna gauge when yours will come...

Wow, I am really considering buying a GA or GASP just because of this. Ofcourse I would use it to play games too, but this makes it very enticing.

That site has some good movies...

    Incredibles ( 2004 )
    Bourne Supremacy ( 2004 )
    Shaun of the Dead ( 2004 )
    Blade3: Trinity (2004)
    Gong Fu
    The SpongeBo...
    Bulletproof
Tom & Jerry _ Magic Ring
    Robots
    Other Game Rom 004

Finally got mine today and gots to say:

THE IS THE BEST THING EVER......

Forget buying a PSP, well i guess if you are picky and want widescreen and the games and such, be my guest, but for an alternative for less than half of what a PSP cost, this is the way to go. For those who already have a GBA, go for it, I would strongly suggest it.

As stated above, I have converted a bunch of Rockets clips and a family guy episode. The Tmac Dunk on Bradley vid made me wanna cry again :) The family guy episode was flawless, kinda was off on the audio but just for like the first 10 secs of the vid, other than that, thats it. Havent tried to convert any MP3s or try to play a NES Rom, but once I get the chance, I'll post my thoughts here.

Overall, very entertaining little thing that will make your GBA look cool :)

As you can see, i have no life since I am up at 3 in the morning still playing this thing... :p

Converted some MP3s to .GBS files and sounds excellent. The highest quality is 8:1 stereo sound in which I converted Foo Fighters' "Best of You" and sounds great. I also converted Jimmy Eat World's "Work" in 16:1 mono and played fine as well, but you can tell a the difference between the 2. Converting to either setting is a breeze, more like less than 5 secs a song. The stereo setting file size's came out about the same as the original MP3 while in Mono, it cuts the file size to half.

btw, I was reading the update of the version of firmware, and if im reading this correctly, it also plays GBA ROMS!!! Havent tried yet, im d/ling a torrent full of GBA Roms as i type this.

Overall, Im having fun with this thing. Bringing it to work later to show this thing off :)
