I'm a year away from graduating from Texas State with a Political Science Major Spanish Minor and I'm currently working on my first resume. I'm trying to apply for any internships next summer that will accept Polsci majors. I'm currently having problems with my objective line and summary of qualifications. For the summary I have Proficiency in written/spoke spanish and computer skills. Aside from that I am stuck because all my jobs I have had until this point have been giving tennis lessons, serving and bartending, and I'm working in my schools History Department this year as a supplemental instructor, but I'm not really sure how any of those could help my qualifications ha. I have a program through my school where I can submit my resume and they will look over it and help me correct it but I'd like to have a decent rough draft for them too look at first. Any advice will be appreciated considering many of ya'll have been here before me and know much more than I do.
Ponga un ejemplo de su "objective line" aquí, y le ayudaremos, honorable señor CMaíz, por favor. Spoiler Please place an example of your objective line here, and we'll help you, most honorable CCorn, sir. Actually, it could also be translated as CElote according to my Aztec ancestors...
Mr. Corn, sir, you're supposed to say that you'd like to "utilize your skills to their potential" and be "in an environment that challenges" you... and things of that sort... so... give it a try... the first time may not be the best time (that's what SHE said). Fixed. Nice try, sir. Please pay the man at the door.

You should include items under these such as: served approximately ___ guests per week. Received compliments from multiple guests for excellent service. Resolved problems with guests to ensure their full satisfaction. For the instructor/trainer, how many people did you instruct/train per week? What type of specific techniques/concepts did you instruct them in? Did you help to improve their capabilities/knowledge or shorten their learning curve? Did they thank/compliment you? Just try to describe (1) what you did, and more importantly, (2) what you did well. Also, under your education, try to describe 2-3 projects you did. You're applying for a political representative's office? If so, maybe a project or two related to political science. Possibly mention topics you studied under the Summary- which makes sense, a political representative would want to know maybe a few things you learned about politics, government, history, etc..
Thanks for the advice so far everyone. And I have no desire to go to law school, I plan on getting my masters in either Polsci or Public Admin but I want to work a little before I go back to school.
What kind of job(s) are you applying for? Also what is your long term career plan? I'm also a poli sci grad and I've been working in political strategy and campaigns for the past few years. There are also other things besides resumes that can really help you out in getting into the game.
*Bump* Now that I've build on my resume with an internship at a law firm and a job within the History Department, I'm finally going to start shipping out my resume. I graduate in May so I think I need to get movin' ha. Long time. Actually Gee my dream is to work campaigns. I plan on going back to school for my MPA but as of right now thinking of getting a job to take a break from school. I'm considering something in Public Service. My resume looks pretty good but I'm struggling with the Objective line. Here's what I've got but I think it's meh: Seeking position within the Public Sector, utilizing my knowledge of law and government procedure.
