The league is a mess right now. If the Warriors win another title & Klay takes less $ in order to keep the gang together I'll probably go crazy. The East only has a couple of real contenders and LeBron could very well be leaving to head West. My issue is that as much as I love the game it's hard to keep watching when you already know the outcome. Even if we added LeBron nxt season we would still be underdogs to the Warriors. If you let that sink in for a moment you'll see just how non-competitive the league has become.
If we add Lebron to our roster without having to give up Capela, we instantly become better than the Warriors. But the NBA has been predictable for years, much longer than before the Warriors came along. Each era has been dominated by a particular dynasty. Nothing new.
If the league indeed loses parity they will do something about it if/when it starts affecting revenue. If it doesn’t affect revenue then they won’t. Bout as simple as it can get
You might not like it, or even watch it anymore, but not of that makes ANY kind of difference in grand scheme. NBA business is blooming, more and more people are watching NBA. Warriors are popular as ****. So if you think they (NBA) cares an ounce about your, mine or anyone else opinions you're in for a big surprise. Most fans are NOT hardcore fans, and they don't follow sports THAT hard to do or care about anything regarding parity or any of that stuff, so that's that. We better hope we either win against Warriors or get Lebron (or PG) during the summer.
The cap usually does a fine job. This was a result of a one time unprecedented spike in the cap which is unlikely to happen in the near future. The Warriors will win every year until they start to decline (3-4 years probably) and then things will return to normal. Even the Miami super team only won 2/4 years.
I guess the rest of the league can take solace that the warriors will have a 200 million dollar luxury tax...
There was reasonable hope that those dynasties would fall. Heat lost twice in the finals, Kobe Lakers lost to the Celtics, Spurs never repeated, Shaq-Kobe Lakers should have lost to the Kings, '98 Bulls had a game 7 and were underdogs in the Finals, Rockets avoided the Sonics, first threepeat Bulls were underdogs in '91. Lakers and Celtics kept each other from owning the league, 70s had no dynasties...only the Russell Celtics were comparable to the Warriors today, and no one was watching the NBA back then. This Warriors team is unbeatable when healthy and if they're missing their best player, they're still heavily favored against any team in the league.
Was discussing this yesterday with a co worker, well the topic. He brought up some interesting topics. The rockets may start seeing a lot of calls in our favor to help us in this series. With boston looking promising, if they move on to the finals, its pretty apparent that the warriors will sweep them. A lot of people probably wont even bother watching. BUT, if the rockets make it to the finals, and for the first time in years, we have a new battle in the finals, the underdogs out of the east and the west, ratings would shoot through the roof for people seeing a fresh new finals. And the rockets likely would win, but not sweep. So it would be a win for everyone. Just a thought. And if GS does win and they sweep the Celtics, they'll probably get rid of the east vs west next year.
Takes two to tango. Then again if Cleveland is looking at Lebron walk. Maybe they do this. Assuming Clint signs. Maybe he doesn't because he doesn't want to go to a dumpster fire which is what Cleveland will be if/when Lebron leaves.
If the Rockets got someone like LeBron, I could see them changing this as well. They will not want the two top teams going at it just for the WCF.
