If this guys is not the guy that did the killing I think there should be more punishment to the news besides loss of money . I mean this isht can ***** his life up FOREVER cause everyone won't see the retraction maybe not in a timely fashion his life might be in danger. . . . Rocket River
I have brought this up so many times....it is a sad day for journalism when people consider twitter and facebook to be valid sources.
you would think reporters would figure out googling social media sites is asking for trouble after the batman shooting Brian Ross went on ABCNews and said it was a tea party member who had the same name, was completely false
And here is a 2nd guy who got misidentified, too, and he actually sounds weird. But I don't think he was plastered on TV, rather the masses are just spamming all Ryan Lanza's. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>so aperently im getting spammed bc someone with the same name as me killed some ppl... wtf?</p>— Ryan Lanza (@Ryan__Lanza) <a href="https://twitter.com/Ryan__Lanza/status/279677363938263041" data-datetime="2012-12-14T20:00:54+00:00">December 14, 2012</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
foxnews.com still has the facebook Ryan Lanza's picture up. I would think they would take it down immediately if there was any uncertainty.
We are rushing to attack a dead person, with no worries of harming others. That is terrible. The media interviewing those children are also beyond stupid.
Thing about it is from what I've heard about the news, it is a perfectly reasonable error to make. We have IDs to well, identify people over it. Obviously it's a mistake and CNN should be sued and maybe someone will get fired over this, but that's about it.
When you have newspapers with ridiculous money . . . they can easily pay people off The risk Reward is in their favor . . .so they will always risk and play with people's lives as if it is without consequence. With that said . . . They need to have hirer penaltys. ECONOMIC PENALTIES FOR EVERYTHING DOES NOT WORK WITH THESE COMPANIES HAVE RIDICULOUS AMOUNTS OF MONEY TO PAYOFF EWVERYONE Rocket River
Things like this tick me off immensely, this guy's life is essentially ruined (as if it wouldn't have been anyway, I suppose), but a lot of these "journalists" are just vultures. They've also been harassing this guys grandma to no end trying to get a scoop. I studied journalism at uni and journalists are like this everywhere, I did the court beat (writing articles based on court cases) for a while and the journalists there sickened me, they were so desensitised to everything and had no inkling of human decency. I reported a case where a guy doused his girlfriend in petrol at a petrol station and lit her on fire while he warded off on-lookers with a knife and yelled "burn, b****, burn." The reporters there were vultures. They harassed everyone in the court room for a scoop, and shoved mics into the faces of anyone involved in the trial at the front of the court. They were totally unfazed, it's only about the story for them. In this day and age with the internet, journalism is a very cut-throat industry so pretty much everyone needs to be first to break the story, and that is why things like this happen. It's very sad and irresponsible and undermines the whole ideal of journalism. Sorry for the pseudo-rant.
