Ok, so I have a debate on Reproductive Technology coming up. We were assigned the Con side of the argument. It was kind of different for me, because I had to put aside my personal viewpoint on the matters and take the stance that I would normally be against. After preparing for this in a thorough manner, I've learned a lot of interesting facts about the subject, and I feel it has helped shape my understanding/opinion about it.
I primarily hit on these points:

-In-Vitro Fertilization
-Gene Testing of Fetus
-Medical Abortion
-Genetic Engineering of Fetus
-Embryo Screening
So, i want to ask you guys:

1. Do you believe in these practices/techniques?
2. Do you think they should be legal?
3. What type of government regulation should there be?
4. Are there any other "significant" reproductive technology practices out there that need to be paid more attention to?
5. Are there any personal experiences that have shaped your opinion about the matter?
I will post my opening statements of the debate later when I get a chance..

1. Do you believe in these practices/techniques?
Yes
2. Do you think they should be legal?
Yes
3. What type of government regulation should there be?
In general, the same as any other medical procedure, but we need some form of bioethics oversight. and there's the issue of what happens to "unused" embryos, and Embryonic stem cell research.
4. Are there any other "significant" reproductive technology practices out there that need to be paid more attention to?
Cloning? not sure what you're looking for- the field is pretty vast. in general i find IVF, and other forms of reproductive tech less problematic from a societal standpoint than some forms of surrogacy. but perhaps you ought to include adoption, and some of the issues that arise there, such as single, gay, foreign or interracial adoptions.
5. Are there any personal experiences that have shaped your opinion about the matter?
Yes.
