He has completely disappeared and played bad on the offensive and defensive end in several of the last 10 games. He plays out of control on the offensive end at times and I am still having a hard time getting over his dirty play against Dallas in the last game. Personally I don't think it's harsh but like I said I will give him to the end of the season.
You like the dirty play?? That sucks and I wish Dirk had fallen on and knocked him out of the game. There is no place for that type of play on any team. That is why I hate Karl Malone and why I hated Laimbeer. Posey completely shamed the organization whith his 4th quarter play against Dallas.
basically james came over and had a few good shooting games and everyone was riding his jock thinking he was gonna keep it up. while i think he's playing worse than he is, we're starting to see the real posey when it comes to offense right now. i mean damn, he makes cuttino look like he was on fire the last two weeks. can anyone remember the last time he hit a 3?? he was at 25% 3's with us before the phoenix game and all i saw were bricks. as for his D, i don't really notice it being all that good. maybe the fact i don't notice it much means he's keeping his man out of the flow and thus there is no need to notice. but i do know harpring friggin torched him in the first utah game and he wasn't guarding him the next game. he also has a tendency to pick up stupid fouls, and specializes in getting 2 in the first quarter so he has to come out of the game. on top of the fact he can't shoot, he takes ill-advised shots. i mean at least when cuttino does it, there's a good shooter doing it. with posey, i can't imagine what he's thinking. he drives when he shouldn't, shoots when he shouldn't, isn't hitting ft's like he was in denver, picks up weak fouls, and doesn't generally shut people down. for me, it's between him and EG for lowest iq on the team and i give eddie an advantage only because he seems to have an unbelievable understanding of the art of blocking shots, even non-weakside ones. and you know that play where yao gets it then hands off the a cutting guard baseline. how the hell did posey manage to step out of bounds one time on that play??? now after all that bashing, i will say he's been a much better rebounder than i thought he'd be, he steals pretty good, and he's really good at running out and finishing a break. plus he seems be able to dunk even in awkward positions even w/o his legs under him. are his arms super long?
Yeah crash, I didn't like his attitude in the Dallas game either. I can accept borderline dirty play in a competitive game, but in a blowout... I do think you'll see him play better at the end of the season, pretty much based on the things REIT has said. I don't think he's been that bad on the defensive end. I love seeing him pick the ball off and getting an easy bucket. I guess I should watch more closely. This damn forum has me concentrating to much on Stevie, Cat and Yao.
I've never thought of it that way, but now that you mention it I have to say I agree totally. When we first got Posey I was excited and would've signed him for 5-6 mil, but now after "test driving" him, I'd have to say 4 mil would probably be my limit. Pugs
Posey is a decent role player. I like him on the Rockets. I like his hustle and energy that he brings each night. However with Terence Morris in the wings (and to an extent Hawkins) you are afforded some wiggle room here. I think the Rockets will want to resign Posey in the off season but I don't think he will be offered more than around the mid level exception. There should be a lot of free agents available this off season so money might get tight after some of the big signings. Last season good role players such as Greg Buckner and Malik Rose got pretty huge contracts but I don't think that scenario will take place this off season with the glut of free agents and a limited supply of teams willing to flip the bill for players. I don't remember, how much is Moochie making these days. 3-4 mil a season? That seems about the right price for Posey. Again, having Morris play well for the Rockets gives them the ability to let Posey walk if he is just asking for too much. The Rockets need either Morris or Posey as a gritty SF on this team to compliment the shooters Rice/Nachbar. Chris
I don't think I'd be upset if Posey went to another team this offseason, but I have the feeling the Rockets are going to keep him.
I don't think he is worth a MCE. Ya'll forgot that the MCE is worth more this year because of the Luxary tax. You can get Juwan Howard for the MCE, so why would you want Posey for that much. The most I would give him is a Moochie type contract.
You can't get Juwan Howard with the MCE because he'd rather go to the Bulls or Lakers for that money. Here's the deal: If Posey takes absolutely NO jumpers, he's AMAZING. Once he starts taking J's during the game, that's when his value diminishes tremendously. It's insane to assume that his shot will improve, because it hasn't improved AT ALL during his tenure in the NBA. Right now, I can't help but think T-Mo is a better SF for this team. If he adds a consistent 3-pt shot over the offseason, can you say Posey is better than T-Mo? Now, if we absolutely HAD to have him, Posey would be great coming off the bench next year @ a starting salary of 4M, and the contract is 5 years long. He'd be a very good 6th man, backing up the 2 and the 3, at a very respectable salary.
We may disagree on another thread but you are absolutely right here (grumble). I think Posey should come off the bench, given his high energy level. I even think he should be coming off the bench now (yes, with Rice starting)! Also, could Posey's offensive game be better facing the opposition's second stringer? Possible.
