Probably the vast majority of consumer products I purchase are online, and the vast majority are refurbished items, especially with the more 'big ticket' products like laptops and televisions.

I can honestly say that Refurbished is as good as new, and I have yet to experience a single problem with an item which I bought as Refurbished. In fact, the only out of warranty issues I have had over the years have been with allegedly brand new items (more recently an Acer One 8.9" netbook which barely outlasted its 1 year warranty before breaking down for good).

That is my personal testimony and trust me, I have purchased tons of electronics over the years, and almost 90% of those purchases were made online (Buy.com is my favorite)

That's awesome to hear :). Have you purchased any refurb HD's too or are those a bit of a gamble?

Like , what does refurbished more or less mean? I always assumed it just the same as dug out of a trash can and then reassembled..

Refurbished items are usually items that had some type of problem with them already that has been repaired that they can't sell as new. The only problem sometimes with refurbs is their warranty is nowhere near as long as a new version of the same product. If you can get an equal warranty, you're in luck.
