I saw in tonight's game that Yao did not get those cheap, real cheap fouls on him. I do not know if it was the towel throwing from the game before or it is just the way that this game was officiated. I guess we will have to wait and see. What do you guys think, the the towel throwing made a difference on how refs looked at this game? Yes or no?
I noticed that from tonight's game too. The refs weren't calling all of those stupid "fouls" on Yao. You can't really say if the refs are gonna treat him better from one game, I'll give it a few more games before we can make any judgement.
i hope they keep officiating him like this because its the correct way to do it...however i doubt it will continue because everytime there was a no call when yao jumped straight up the whole nets team complained.....i have a feeling that eventually the refs will revert back to making those horrible calls due to the pressure from the opposition...once again i hope im wrong
next game they will start call those damn "fouls" again... that's why I hate nba refs...they are just so darn inconsistent...
I thought the refs were very lenient on Yao and think they probably could have called a couple of fouls on him that went uncontested. A lot of the attempts by the Nets though were legit no calls. It's good to see they're only calling fouls where there's legit shot attempts with the intent of making the basket and not just drawing a foul on someone cuz' they run into a defenders body while they stand up straight.
When Yao first entered the league, there was speculation that this skilled, potentially dominant 7'6 might one day change NBA rules, or at least effect officiating. Tonight, thats what we saw with refs allowing no-calls on Yao when he is just standing still and not instigating the contact. And I hope this continues. Guys like Vince Carter and Boki Nachbar were complaining about fouls that should've been called. But those two, as well as the rest of the NBA, better recognize what a foul truly is.
I doubt the towel throw had any effect. Some refs are more fair w/ big men, some aren't. Tonight was one of those nights where they weren't calling him for everything. Seems like it happens 25% of the time. I'm guessing for anything to really happen, the NBA would send a league wide memo concerning Yao to all the refs. I doubt that happens much for any single player.
Stop dreaming. This has happened before. Bad calls will come soon. It is so simple: NBA wants each team to have fans to fill the stadium or watch the games. NEB refs have to help the home teams unless they could afford to lose some games. Meanwhile, it is so beautiful to see both sides have roughly the same number of fouls and FTs in most of the games. It is a work of art to make it look fair.
Two things: 1 When Yao doesn't lower his arms at all, he rarely gets called for a foul. A lot of times when he gets called for very cheap fouls, some of the blame is on him for not keeping his arms straight up. 2 This whole thing isn't just about Yao. I've seen non-calls in plenty of other games not involving the Rockets. When the big man is still and goes straight up, the refs are letting teams play. It's happening all over the NBA. Defensive players must be disciplined to not swipe towards the ball when it's not necessary.
I for sure thought it would be a foul when Boki (I think?) ran into Yao when Yao was holding his arms straight up but the refs didn't call it. I was amazed. Did you guys notice that? It was towards the end of the game, around the 7:00 mark of the 4th quarter. That was the one that stuck out to me, but overall it was much better.
Yao is keeping his arms straight like a clown. so what? You still believe those craps from NBA refs? Amazing.
Yeah its good to see Yao being officated fairly, and guess what? He usually have good games that way. By the way, love your signature man. lol
Rox was leading by about 10 pts. What's the point of helping Rox to pull games away? Why do NAB refs want to do that? Just to show the world that they are actually following NBA rules to make calls? They don't care.
yeah i think yao's frustration towards the refs the other game helped at least every time the refs called a foul on yao, yao agreed and raised his hand
did anyone else notice how magloire was pushing yao around? every other play it seemed like magloire was throwing a cheap shot at yao whether he had the ball or not
I think it has more to do with Rockets offically complained to the league so the league reviewed that Kings game and maybe others, found out Yao was being offciated worst among all NBA players. Refs in these two games must have recieved instructions from NBA about how to officiate Yao.
