We've all had arguments for years on this forum ... Since you started joining in on the arguments, it got worse because you always take it to the personal level basically calling people dumb for thinking differently than you. That's the difference between your arguments and the 100s of arguments that have gone on before here.
Bingo. This team will not succeed or fail based on offense from the 8 spot in the lineup. Also interesting that there's not a single quote from Garner. Not sure if he's even talked to him about his plans or is just speculating.
Ok, so you have to get Mike Lamb in the lineup and Ensberg needed a rest anyway. Giving Ensberg a day off isn't anything out of the normal. You have to get Lane back out there to try to get him going. Ok. Well, we only have four true outfielders with Burke and occasionally Bruntlett filling in out there. Bruntlett's starting at SS and Burke's had a couple of starts recently, so Lane being back out there makes sense. Munson's spelled Ausmus behind the plate. Not quite. Munson catches every fifth day, starting exclusively for Wandy. If Munson started one day for say Oswalt or any of the other pitchers, that would be "spelling" Ausmus. Starting for the same pitcher he always does isn't really noteworthy. Wilson's back out there as normal. Well, we're not paying him $4 million to sit on the bench. So ok. Everett's batting at .205 and Bruntlett got a spot start, so Everett's low batting average is no longer being tolerated and his presence is no longer being justified. What? Every other starter who's struggling or for some reason isn't in this game, Lopez writes off as a spot start. However Everett, for no reason other than his batting average, has apparently lost his starting spot in the lineup. Note we mention AE's .205 average. He doesn't mention that Lane, who you "have to get back out thereat some point and find out what he can do", is currently batting .198. As Buck and others pointed out, there are no quotes from Garner or Astros management about Everett sitting out. You'd assume if they were benching him the Astros would give the media something, which they apparently didn't. So, at this point Lopez is apparently speculating. I guess the quickest way we're going to find out though is to see who starts tonight.
He's not going to come out & say "Everett's benched" but he'd definitely talk about the situation with the offense, even in abstract coachspeek ("We'll go with this for awhile and see how blah blah blah"). To me, no quotes from Garner = Lopez didn't talk to Garner before writing this.
man, it is called common sense. a manager does not "rest" a healthy player for three days. he is, or was, whether he plays today or not, giving bruntlett a chance to perform. there's no if ands or buts about it. i dont understand what is so hard to understand about that for some of you.
I have no earthly idea what you're trying to argue here. I was merely pointing out that Garner's opinion matters. John Lopez's - or yours or mine - does not. And Garner's hasn't said anything about what his longer-term thinking is.
arkoe is saying that it's still "speculation" that everett was benched. i thought you were implying the same thing.
Any lineup with Willy T leading off is going to be handicapped... the guy's average is now down to .265, and that was the ONLY thing he had going for him in the past (his OBP, Slg, and just about any other offensive number you want to use are some of the worst in baseball).
jim 7, bruntlett 1 or 2? did that moron really throw back a griffey jr home run ball? man, that's a bigger fan than i'll ever be i guess.
