J.J. Redick, a likely first-round pick in this month's NBA draft, was arrested for driving while impaired early Tuesday and has was released on $1,000 bond, a Raleigh-Durham, N.C., television station reported.

WTVD, citing a police report, said that Redick was arrested at 1:03 a.m. in Durham, N.C., after the former Duke star made an illegal U-turn to avoid a police checkpoint.

The television station reported that Redick is scheduled to appear in a Durham court on July 17.

The NBA draft is scheduled June 28 in New York City. How an arrest will affect Redick's draft status is unclear, though it may not hurt it, according to ESPN.com's Andy Katz.

"I think that these things hurt anybody's draft status," an Eastern Conference GM, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Katz. "They do in my eyes. I take these things seriously. That's too bad."

Redick had previously pulled out of scheduled workouts with Orlando and Boston this week. Previously, he had worked out for Golden State, Utah, Houston and Seattle.

Among the teams reportedly interested in Redick is Houston, which has the No. 8 pick.

Redick, who won the 2006 Wooden Award as the nation's top college player, shot 47 percent from the field, 42 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent from the free throw line in leading Duke to a 32-4 record. He finished his career with 2,769 points and the record 457 3-pointers.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Just pulled a Roethlisberger nearly before Roethlisberger did his Roethlisberger.

I just don't understand. I know you're young, I know you want to party, etc. etc. .... but the time up to the NBA Draft man, you don't jack with anything. You should be 100% business. Jeff Hornacek he is not.

Just plain dumb. If his stock takes a hit, so (possibly) does the value of the #8 pick I assume.

He's about to be a professional athlete making millions of dollars. AKA he's a role model. Partying and drunk driving are different.

    Bwahahaha.

No way Utah takes Redick at 14.

wild speculation: If the NOK still wants to trade their #12 and #15 to us for our #8, we could probably pick up Redick at #15 or maybe even #32. :) That would leave us with #12 to get Carney, Brewer, Shawne Williams or some other athletic wing player.

    the plot thickens.

Although I'd read about the Rocket rumor, to see it written in the article makes it all the more believable.

This could change everything for him and the Rockets.

So much for the argument that JJ Redick is smart.

The dude may just have cost himself millions of dollars as each slot dropped is worth big $$$ over 4 years. What an idiot.

After reading the Brewer interview and his leaping 12' I don't see how anyone would want Redick over Brewer.

It's nice he can shoot but who is he going to shut down defensively.

Didn't Carney shut him down defensively when they played?

Duke is becoming like Miami football. strippers and booze. I hope the media starts to get off their jock because of their supposed holier than thou culture. If there is a lesson to be learned this year, kids from all backgrounds like to party.
