Eh. Sloppy early for the Sox, they should have scored a lot more in the first 2 innings. I'll take 1 - 1 coming to Fenway anyday though. Especially since our ace is pitching, and we've already beaten their ace.
Exactly. If Boston loses on Saturday, then I am going to get concerned. Look, Andy Pettitte has always had Boston's number. Also, add the fact that Boston is undefeated in the playoffs when *I* watch the entire game and that I was in class tonight and I already knew what was going to happen in this one. Also, I know that Pimp is a Yankees fan, but drapg, what in the hell did the Red Sox ever do to you to cause you to spew such venom? It boggles my mind how anyone can root for the Yankees when they are NOT their favorite team. Do you even really follow baseball?
I dont follow baseball and I dont really have a favorite team. But I love the rich history of the Yankees. Babe, Joe-D, Mickey, Maris, etc. etc. Plus, they dont exactly have a-holes for players right now. They all seem to be stand-up guys. I hate baseball, but I love watching the Yankees come playoff time.
I am indifferent towards the Yankees. I don't despise them, like others, because of their outrageous payroll. If anything, I'm jealous that the Astros don't have an owner willing to go over the top to win. Of course, the market bears what it will and Houston is no NYC. But I can't stand Cubs and Red Sox fans. There alleged "curse" saturates sports media. They come across as self-involved fools who think the world revolves around them and that the fact they haven't won the WS in umpteen years means they deserve it more than anyone else. I'm not singling any fans out, its the group as a whole that pisses me off. They need to get over themselves. They're whole attitude upsets me to no end... both Cubs and Red Sox fans. I'm sick and tired of hearing the "oh we haven't won in blah blah years". The story is old and tired. Get over it. With that venom spewed, go Yanks.
So, you are admitting that the media makes a big deal out of the Cubs and Red Sox not winning a WS in such a long time and that makes you mad at their fans? Uh, we can't control what the media says about our teams although it would be nice. I also think that you are confusing the media's obsession with them not winning in so long to equating that with the attitude of their fans. Yes, I will not lie in that I will be very happy if Boston wins the WS this year (if they get there), but I don't have the attitude that "woe is us, we haven't won it in 85 years." You will always find some fans who are beyond "fanatical" about it, but the whole group is not like that. Believe it or not, drapg, they are normal people (the majority of them) just like you. One other thing, too, is that you are the first person I have met who follows baseball, is not a Yankees fan, but at the same time would want to see them win a WS.
The media makes a big deal of the Sox/Cubs lengthy non-World Series winning streak because the fans do. Everywhere I turn, Sox and Cubs fans are being interviewed for television/radio and giving the same sappy story. "My dad never saw the Sox/Cubs win the series. He died before they could do it. His dying wish was for me to see them win in my lifetime. Blah blah blah, oh the pain in my life!!! I want my child to see them win in my lifetime. I want to share the experience with my children, something I couldn't do with my dad!" GET THE HELL OVER IT! There are plenty of other franchises that haven't won in a long time either. We don't indulge and wallow in our own self pity year after year, taking some sort of masochistic pleasure in reveling in our own pain. Perhaps it is my inferiority complex showing, as an Astros fan obscured in the shadow of the giant East coast bias that infiltrates sports media, and thus makes every action that the Sox and Cubs franchises take seem so much more important than anything the rest of us "piddling" franchises west of the Mississippi do. It drives me nucking futs! The Yankees do everything right. They take advantage of MLB's lousy salary cap situation, and subsequently win championships. I respect that. Others hate it, but I call that jealousy. Who wouldn't want an owner that spends $180 million a year and is willing to go over the luxury tax just to bring a championship home every season?? What's wrong with rooting for a team that tries to win by any means necessary? Truth be told, I'm really rooting for the Marlins to take the whole thing!
