Sure I can. There some better teams during those stretches, most notably '87-'93.

I agree, it does take a special person to deal with a boss like Steinbrenner, but would hardly say Torre's retirement/dismissal will result in the downfall of the New York Yankees of the past decade.

It's not this comment alone, but I'm noticing more and more you're becoming the same old problem. That was real nice reading you say you didn't want African Americans coming to your movie theater. This is the third time I've let you back on this board and I'm regretting it now for a third time. You do this every time - start out regretful, start to get comfortable and then start spouting off. So let me take this moment to hammer it in your head with emphatic clarity: The next time you get banned I absolutely promise I'll delete your entire existance on this board. You've been given way too many chances here -- there will not be a fourth time.

Okay, I want to get this in before this thread gets locked (which it may not get locked).

    BobFinn*,

I am sorry for getting upset with you these past couple of days. I don't have a problem with you; how can I? It is a message board and so you are a Yankees fan. You were just happy and excited that they won like any other Yankee fan would be.

I guess I had a tough time coping with the loss (I still say that the Fiesta Bowl game with Miami and Ohio State was even worse and I will never come to terms with the result on that one;) ). From being on this board for over 2 years, I think you are a fair and even-handed poster. I have had a problem in the past with containing my feelings of disappointment on the board in the past, but it is no excuse. I messed up, plain and simple. If you refuse to accept my apology, then that is okay as I deserve it, but I wanted to say one for the record.

The ALCS is over, yet this thread keeps getting bumped to the top.

Enjoy Game 2 and move on. And thank ESPN for not airing a football game at the same time tonight.

Torre is a lot more valuable to the Yankees/New York Cockroaches than most admit (there are tougher to kill than a NY cockroach after all). How many titles do the Roaches have in the last 20 years, how many of those are during Torre's reign for less than half that period? You can say well, the Roaches' have the most money, etc., but plenty of other teams (Red Sox, Dodgers and unBraves come to mind) have been in the same salary ballpark many of those years without near that success--and Torre never has had a Maddox-Glavine-Smoltz core. Torre does a masterfull job of keeping the players focused on team goals (Cox has to be the most overrated manager the last decade in a half however).

BTW--of course Little should have pulled Pedro. Pedro had lost much of his control and only escaped the 7th inning because Soriano was pressing. All he needed was 6 outs and had had 2 fresh guys who had been awesume (Timlin and Embree, 0.00 ERA in the playoffs over FIFTEEN innings), and had Williamson (1 ER in 8IP) or Wakefield (2Ws, around 2 ERA) who also had been good in the postseason. Go righty (Williamson or Wakefield--even if to draw Sierra then switch pitchers) to get through Jeter & Williams than lefty through Posada, Giambi (Embree), Wilson/Sierra than Timlin for Soriano & the rest. Piece of cake really as Boston's pullpen had been brilliant--and Wakefield was available too. Not surprising, after Pedro was pulled they pitched 3 innings of no hit ball until they finally gave up the only and deciding run.

A similar situation occured 2 years ago in game 7. Brenly pulled Schilling--a guy who unlike Pedro had dominated the Roaches and even more use to high pitch counts than Pedro--after 7+ somthing innings if I remember. That kept the D-Backs in the game which they later won. Of course like every competiter Schilling like Pedro said don't pull me--but the manager has to see the forest from the trees however and get the hook. Before you say, well RJ was available--in fact I think they first went to Batista as RJ had pitched the night before and was toast (fastball was at least 5 MPH off), just not quite as toast as Schilling and Brenly knew he had to do something. I think Brenly is mostly a stubburn idiot--but even he recognized that situation as a loser and acted.

In fact Grady should have pulled Pedro after his very shaky 7th--though I understand the thought of leaving him in until he allows one baserunner. But he absolutely should have pulled him after the Jeter double. After the Williams hit it was completely obvious you had to pull Pedro. After Matsui's hit--well we already in idiots territory for leaving him in this far, but time to cut you loses and have the bullpen clean up the mess. Allowing him to pitch while gassed to a major power guy slightly better when hitting from the left side (Posada) after already giving up 3 strait hits when a HR loses the series and the best bullpen this playoffs is ready to go? Unfathomable.

I'd be fairly despondent if I were Red Sox fan, but I am not. Nonetheless, Go Marlins!

and Aaron Boone is the man, I don't care if he never plays a game for the Yankees again. He made grown men cry that night.

Thats all that needs to be said about that series.

I can't wait for Torre to leave. Despite the fact that I didn't care about the outcome of the World Series after the Red Sox lost, Torre blew it by sending his worst pitcher out in extra innings (Jeff Weaver) instead of his best pitcher (Mariano Rivera).

This was the best series ever, and I feel sorry for the Red Sox players that actually deserved to win like Todd Walker, Trot Nixon, David Ortiz, Nomar Garciaparra....and all of the other professionals on the Red Sox.

First off, that is laughable that you would place so much importance on the Yankees, and yet after they lose the WS to a team most considered not even close talent wise, suddenly "not care" about the results. Big, fat,. Why are you still posting about this. The new season is about to start and you are still flexing your postseason win from a year ago.

Things that have taken place since then...

    1. Curt Schilling joined the Red Sox.

    2. The Sox acquired a top-flight closer, Keith Foulke, to immediately turn their biggest weakness last season into a huge strength.

    3. The Yankees lost their premiere left hander and the ace of their staff and replaced them with an aging pitcher who gets injured every 3 weeks, and a young pitcher without playoff experience.

What's so special about this game anyway? It's just another chapter in the pointless rivalry between the Red Sox and the Yankees. They sign Sheffield, so we sign Schilling. They trade for Vazquez, so we burnt down their stadium.

I should have phrased it differently. I care about the results. I'd rather have had the Yankees win than the Marlins, but beating the Red Sox in the ALCS is about one hundred times better than beating the Marlins in the World Series. It was anticlimatic for most Yankee fans.

    I have two questions:

    1. If lefthanders matter so much in this league, then how will the Red Sox win?

    and

    2. When did the Yankees lose Mussina?

I actually think that the Yankees pitching looks better going into this season than it did last year. As much as I love the Rocket, he is way past his prime and provided a 4+ ERA, which is a dime a dozen in MLB. Pettite really got a lot of juice out of his performances in the playoffs, because he is really pretty overrated. Brown has the stuff to give you a 2.something ERA if he can stay on the mound. Vasquez is about as good as Pettite, only younger and cheaper. They also got some much needed help in the bullpen. I would say that the Yankees have one of the top rotations in all of baseball (with the A's and 'Stros).

    Rule,

Enjoy having Erick Almonte or Enrique Wilson at third base this year, lol.

The next time I enjoy watching the Effin Yankees win will be the first time, but I think fans are deluded if they think they haven't improved.

Kevin Brown and Javier Vazquez are two of the best pitchers in the game. Gary Sheffield is one of the top sluggers, and their bullpen is much-improved (Quantrill may be the best signing nobody paid attention to).

Yeah, there are question marks -- Who replaces Boone? How healthy will everybody be? Will the defense be horrible or merely very bad? How long until Brown throttles Jeter for letting another groundball skip past his glove? But overall, they've done a good job of reloading.

Don't get me wrong -- I think the Sox adding Schilling and Foulke make them (gasp!) the favorite in the AL East. I'm concerned with how they played Nomah like a banjo, but I think he's professional enough to put it behind him.

Man, I can't wait for the season to start. It's gonna be a blast.

I spoke with my cousins in Boston after the Super Bowl last night. They were giddy with the win, of course. One of my cousins is a huge Sox fan and doesn't care much for the Patriots and the Celtics.

She got on the phone and said "G-d Bless the Houston Astros".

I said "How come you said that".

She said "The Astros are now my favorite National League team".

    I said "Why?"

She said "'CAUSE THEY'RE PISSING OFF THE YANKEES AND I'M LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!"
